When using skip function on Pixel USB-C earbuds, it plays previous track before skipping

Every time I'm playing audio and use the skip function with double-tap on the Pixel USB-C headphones, the previous track/episode plays briefly before skipping.  Can someone at Spotify spend $30 and get a pair to debug this issue?
