Why can't I play music on shuffle on android without upgrading

I have cancelled my premium membership and now I can't play anything on my Android phone even on shuffle without being prompted to upgrade.  How do I sort this out?

Also I downloaded a lot of music when I upgraded to premium and now it won't let me play it.  I just want to be able to pay music workout using all my mobile data.

it could be that the app is confused but a quick reinstall will fix it. Downoaded content is only playable as long as you have an active premium subscription.
