Why does my note 9 revert back to the new version even with auto update off?

I install the old apk version and its great for a few weeks give or take, but I'll open it occasionally and it's back to the new version...what am I missing?  It only recently started but before it stayed locked in. Is there somewhere in the app that has an auto update setting?

Anyone have an idea? So I install the old apk and get about 3 days or so and then I'll turn spotify on and its reverting to the new garbage update. But auto update is off in my play store , is there another place to check off auto update?
