I've seen several mentions about notifications saying "Waze is connected" and similar, that are stuck on screen, but that's not quite my situation.
All I get ony phone is a notification saying "Spotify connections"... No other details, tapping it does nothing, and I cannot sweep it away.
I don't even know what a Spotify connection is! Is it something to do with "Spotify Connect" which I DO use?
What's the point of this useless and unhelpful notification and how do I get rid of it?

Hi there @Andy_P,
Thanks for the reply.
You can try to go into your phone's App notifications settings and disable notifications for Spotify. Currently there is no way to disable notifications from the app's internal settings.
Apart from that you can go in the Spotify app Settings> Car > Switch to car mode > turn on Never. This may be enabling the app to connect directly to your car's onboard system as soon as it detects it via Bluetooth.
Hope you find this info helpful.
Hey @Andy_P,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
Have you already tried performing a clean reinstall? This can be helpful for clearing any cache that might be causing the issue.
If this doesn't work, would you mind sending us a screenshot where we can see how this notification appears on your screen? Also, let us know if you can replicate this issue when you log into your account using a different device.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Hi, thanks for the reply. This odd notification only appears about once every two weeks, so it will take me a while to get a screenshot.
But it appears in the normal pull-down notification area at the top of the screen.
I'll delay doing the clean reinstall until I've got that scree!shot.
Hey @Andy_P,
Thanks for getting back to us 🙂
Once we also have a screenshot, we will have more information about the issue and can investigate this further.
In the meantime it's a good idea to give these steps a go and run a clean reinstall. It could be that the cache is leading to this issue.
Keep us posted! We'll be right here if you have any questions.
Sorry for very delayed reply... Life got in the way, and then I didn't see the notification for some time...
However I got it again today while.out in the car. Spotify was not running.
Tapping the notification does nothing, and I cannot swipe sideways to remove it. Opening Spotify doesn't affect it and there's nothing in the app to suggest what it means. After an hour or so it just goes away.
Hey there @Andy_P!
Thanks for the reply and the screenshot.
It seems like you have your phone connected to a Bluetooth device. The ''Spotify connection'' notification usually appears when there a possibility to play music via the BT connected device.
I saw that notification when I was setting up my smart watch with Spotify. It's possible that your car audio system is trying to connect to the app and that's why you see this.
You can try un-pairing the Bluetooth and pairing it again. It's also a good idea to check if there are any steps to take on the car audio system to finish up the set up.
Let us know how it goes.
Hi Elana, well I think you've hit the nail on the head! Thank you.
The phone IS paired to the car audio system for music. 99% of the time it's to play my locally-stored music from a large SD card via a different music-player app. as I can't afford mobile charges to use Spotify when I'm not on wi-fi.
But I've noticed that sometimes if I just hit the play button on the car unit (rather than opening the other app and using the player controls on the phone screen) then it's Spotify that starts to play, as if it has priority somehow.
Interestingly though, at home where I regularity stream Spotify to a Chromecast Audio, or to a Roberts smart radio in the kitchen, I don't usually see this 'connections' message.
Maybe that's because those units have Spotify built-in, so the music is streamed directly to them, it's not going via the phone?
If anyone from Spotify is reading this though... It would be useful if either the message was a bit more informative or there was some mention of it in the FAQs or Help documentation.
Also, it should be possible to dismiss the notification!

Thanks, I'll try your solutions. I'll try #2 first as I don't want to turn off ALL notifications from Spotify unless I have to!
Hi, I know this issue is registered as solved, but I'd like to add my contribution into this:
I was having this "Spotify connections" notification in my Android phone (Sony Xperia 5 II) every time I powered up my Bluetooth headphones (Bose NCH-700) paired to my phone. I already had set the Spotify app setting "Switch to car mode" to "Never", too. Phone reboots or Spotify cache clearings didn't help. I didn't try to reinstall Spotify app, though.
I finally managed to to get rid of this notification by setting "External applications" notifications off from Spotify (see @Alex's answer above and my screenshot below). I still seem to get all other necessary notifications (like play controls, when listening to Spotify) on my phone. So no need to set all Spotify notifications off to get rid of this particular notification!
(Edit: attached screenshot of Spotify notifications & fixed some text.)
