shuffle in offline mode plays online songs

shuffle in offline mode plays online songs

Dear spotify,

Shuffle all playlists in offline mode tries to play songs in non-downloaded playlists. So far i've seen 2 things happen (neither acceptable):

1. Sometimes it recognizes that it should be offline, stops playing and requires reshuffling to start again (for only a few songs before breaking again).

2. It plays non-downloaded songs and uses 3g/4g to download, wasting my mobile internet MBs.

Can this please be fixed and checked before new versions are released?

Thanks, Philip

When you say 'Offline Mode' do you mean you've gone into the Spotify app settings and toggled the offline switch... or do you have a playlist with some offline tracks you are shuffling? I'm confused, especially with no.2 as the app would not connect to download a track if you've set the app to be Offline.

Dear Daniel, thank you for your response so I can clarify:

This happens when I toggle offline mode in the settings menu. Then I go to my music-all playlists-shuffle all. Up till recently this worked without trouble but it seems that the offline mode is sort of confused. The app says I'm in offline mode.

When I look in the queue I see that shuffle all in offline mode also includes non-downloaded songs (I'm not sure if this is always the case but that it just skips the non-downloaded songs)

Kind regards, Philip

I'm confused by the steps 'All Playlists - Shuffle All'. I'm pretty sure there is no option to Shuffle All playlists... do you mean tracks?

It's the buttons 'all songs' (in all playlists) 'shuffle play'.

Ah, I think I see. You're actually just going to the 'All Songs' part of my music. This will contain both offline & online tracks.

What you can do is while at the top of this list pull down to reveal the filter options, in the filters tap on 'Available offline' which should then only show you songs that have been downloaded.

Now you can tap 'Shuffle'

Dear Daniel, the mobile app doesn't seem to have this option.

Neither typing available offline in the search box, nor the dropdown list (only contains filter by name).

Am I missing something?

When you see the filter you should have a button on the right of the text box with 3 lines and an arrow. Tap this to get sort/filter options.

Dear Daniel, I found the button, just the option is not there. The only option I have is 'sort by name'. This is both in online and offline mode. Thanks!

Can you provide a screenshot for clarification please?

Furthermore I think I found some extra info on the app playing online songs in offline mode. If you start playing online it seems that when you switch to offline, no change is made to the playlist. It will just continue playing online songs.

Regarding the playlist blocking on an online song in offline mode. This seems very reproducible by using the next song button, which will very quickly forward the playlist to an unavailable song and then stopping.

Although I appreciate any work-arounds for now I think there seems to be unintended behavior in the offline mode button. One merely annoying (restarting playlists) the other one impacting on mobile data plans (keep using mobile data to download while in offline mode). Especially the last one can be disastrous if it goes unnoticed for a day. It especially goes unnoticed because I and I assume many others use offline mode in purpose to protect against using mobile data.

Kind regards, Philip

Attached ia a screenshot. Thanks!

Can you try a clean install??? I know you'll have to re-download all your tracks and I'm sorry. But it's the best thing to try as a first troubleshooting step.

Hi Daniel,

unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem. Still the same issues, no filter; can bypass offline mode and offline mode getting stuck on songs only available online.

Am I correct that the solution were trying right now is more a work-around than an actual fix? Since nothing changed on my end, wouldn;t it be more likely it's a spotify issue. Furthermore, I really appreciate your help in getting it working but in the end it really seems to be a problem in the program that needs to be fixed? Ie. if it's likely a spotify problem I'd prefer to file a bug report rather than tinkering with this, as I'm limited in time and I guess I just want to pay for a working program, rather than some experiment with my data plan that pretends it's working. Is there a quick way to figure out whether this is on my end?

Kind regards, Philip
