Forced Browser Sign in from Desktop App

Just here to vent. Why would Spotify think this is a good idea? Under what circumstances does forcing someone to use a web browser to sign in more user friendly? The whole point of me downloading the desktop app is to avoid using the browser. 

The kicker is now I can’t even use the desktop app anymore because when I click to login using the browser it attempts to open in chrome but never loads the page so it is a endless cycle of disappointment. 

Spotify change this. Please.
