Turn off Spotify Connect

Solved!

Turn off Spotify Connect

How do I disable Spotify Connect?

If I've got my tablet (iPad) running the app, I definitely don't want my phone running it and draining the battery with the app running there as well.

Thanks

Edit by @Daniel

I've just added a guide on ways of disabling Spotify Connect. Hopefully there will be a way of enabling/disabling the service at will in the future.

How to disable Spotify Connect

MODERATOR EDIT:

Hey everyone, Spotify staff here. Recently we updated the Community Idea "Make Spotify Connect a choice" with the status "Not Right Now".

If you've installed our latest Spotify app for Android (1.8.0) and you're still having trouble with battery drain please let us know right here.

We'd also like to mention these other Connect ideas which are a bit more specific to the Connectrequests you've made in this thread. Please leave your kudos and feedback in those as well if they apply to the reasons you'd like to turn off Spotify Connect.

If you don't see the idea you'd like to see, please feel free to make a new idea and post a link in this thread. We're keeping a close eye on your feedback and we're actively bringing it back to the right teams.

I posted this at the top level but feel it belongs here, too:

Spotify unexpectedly plays music out of my phone rather than my computer

I listen to Spotify at work, playing out of my MacBook Pro through my headphones. I've been doing this for years. Suddenly the other day my music seemed incredibly muffled. It took me a moment to realize it was actually playing out of my phone rather than out of my computer. I had to go into Spotify on the Mac and tell it to play out of the computer rather than my phone.

Then today the same thing happened. I had been playing music out of my phone at home. But somehow Spotify on my Mac at work assumes I want everything to play out of my phone thereafter.

This is obnoxious. There needs to be a way to disable playing out of my phone by default, but so far I can't find a way to do that. The way things are now, I can't just seamlessly start playing my music but have to manually select which device to play out of _every time_.

Where I go and select to click the "play" button is almost certainly where I want to be playing it.

I have no idea who ever requested this feature and I have no idea if they ever thought it should be forced upon us or even be the default option.

Hi!

I Listen to spotify everyday and i enjoy it alot.

However, if i start spotify on my phone going to work and when i get to work i start spotify on my computor and press play i want my computor to play the music without interfering with my phone.

Can you PLEASE do a off button in the online settings that propegate to all gadgets connected to my spotify account so i can enjoy spoify without wondering why the *bleeep* my computor is silent but playing and i have to select my computor in my uinits!!!

Best regards!

Please make Spotify connect an option that we can turn off.

This is 3 years now since the issue was reported and they still haven't put a simple option to disable the **bleep** functionality. It's pathetic.

I've personally contacted Spotify 6 times this year about this issue and every single time they tell me "To bad that's how it works". Spotify officially does not care about their customers. They do not even use this site which they setup to get feedback from the community. Every single piece of feedback I've seen on this has either been marked as "Not now" or doesn't have a single response from Spotify.

Until there is a good replacement for spotify out there, they will just keep doing whatever they want regaurdless of what the community wants because they know people are going to pay for it.

Fix it...

I am rooted and have Tasker, can you please explain (step by step) how you did this to solve the wakelock issues please?

Please make it possible to turn off device connectivity! My music suddenly started blasting through my roommate's stereo system in the middle of the night while I was listening to it on my phone with headphones. Just because a device is on the same network doesn't mean I want it to automatically connect without even asking if I am sure! I don't ever use this function anyway and it's ridiculous that it can't be turned off.

I would like some security if my anoying friwnd is in the room and he or she decides to use spotify conect while im trying to play on my ps4 they can anoy me without me to be able to anything about it. Please add a block spotify connect feature so I still get to control my ps4.

Honestly I do like the Connect feature, but I like the way it was a year ago; You could connect your devices to control one with another back then, but you had to manually connect them. Now Spotify just assumes that the last device that played spotify should be the main device that plays and everything else just automatically connects to it. All that needs to happen to fix this is to disable the automatic connecting. If my phone is playing, then I press play on my mac, the music should start playing from my mac and pause the phone and it should continue off where I last left my mac. NOTHING should ever automatically connect without my permission. Not only it is super annoying it is also a massive security hole! If something can start controlling my locked phone that is not even on the same network, that is a huge problem! PLEASE FIX THIS!

Another vote to enable turning Connect off.  I attempted to play a song on my desktop and it decided the song should play on my phone.  When I hit Play on a device, it should play on that device unless I explicitly choose to control another device.

This is 4 years now the issue is still opened. DISABLE THIS **bleep**ING FUNCTIONALITY YOU STUPID SPOTIFY **bleep**S.

This has got worse for me.

I am listening to a downloaded playlist on the tube and when it pulls out of the tunnel it stops playing and randomly starts playing "radio" or a track I have never put on any of my playlists or wanted to listen to. And I don't believe anyone is connecting to my account.

In addition, I listen to a playlist on one device on shuffle, and I go to another device later to listen to a different playlist in order and it has shuffle on. It's already a wth that shuffle isn't a playlist attribute never mind it tries to "connect" it to all my devices.

another vote for on/off functionality. I listien to spotify on my computer at work. i do not want to use to my phone to control it. I can do it on the computer. I WANT to do it on the computer. Having it play on my phone just runs the battery down. Now I have the spotify app on my phone for when i get home and want to use it. I can understand using my phone to control song with wireless speakers or a tv or whatever. but let me choose when to do it and when to not.

I'm about to lose my mind over this. Please make this intrusive feature optional

For the love off... Spotify.... Please make this an on/off function already!
I am sick and tired having to physically log out of spotify on my phone!
Especially as you have tried your best to hide the damned button to log out from spotify as well!

I would have loved to use Spotify on my mobile device as well, but I decided to delete it from said device due to Spotify Connect. Having no music at all while travelling is much less of an annoyance than having the app start automatically whenever I listen to music on my desktop. Please fix this, it is annoying beyond belief.
