Brand new, cant use skip buttons

Brand new, cant use skip buttons

I just got my car thing today, and while it's overall working, the skip buttons and shuffle button are grayed out, and I have no idea why. 

Any help is appreciated.

Update: Rebooting the Car Thing seems to have fixed the issue

Brought it into my office, plugged both in and connected to WiFi - it was updated within seconds of plugging in my CarThing. 

I am having this exact issue! For some reason it wont update either? Is there a problem with a firewall, as my internet has lots of security on it

Tried factory resetting, restarting, changing cables, connecting to WiFi and it still isn't updating or allowing me to use the skip, back and shuffle buttons

But for those whose work what app version do you have on car thing under settings?  I'm assuming since it works for some people it is based off the update they got.  

Mine is

App Version .24.107

OS Version 6.3.29

again thats under carthing settings

 

I have tried what everyone else suggested, reset, factory reset, different cable. Brought both inside.  

However I have not been notified that there needs to be an update and don't know how to view it.

not sure how or when but it did update finally after a good day 

new app version 0.39.11

New OS Version 8.1.6

however now the save buttons aren't working lol

OK easy fix for anyone new who just got it, apparently spotify customer service doesn't know the fix for it. Apparently you need to have wifi turned on your phone, don't use moblie data, use your phones wifi connected to home wifi, and then connect your car thing so then it will update to the new software update. Then it will work.   Don't use moblie data. Only use wifi for updating ur car thing.

I just got my Car Thing in yesterday and I'm also having the same issue where I can't use the skip or shuffle buttons on the screen. I have tried restarting both the Car Thing and my phone, I did a factory reset on the car thing, and I even uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify but none of those fixed the issue.

What other users have mentioned in this thread, connecting the Car Thing to a WiFi connection and waiting for it to install the latest version of the Spotify app seems to fix this inconvenience. Can you give a try to what @SirAfroPanda suggested here?

 

If that doesn't do the trick, can you try what @OscarDC suggested here?

So after 8 hours connected to Wifi through my phone and with the Car Thing plugged into a wall outlet right next to it, my device still hasn't updated according to the app.

 

However, I did see a new Spotify app update that wasn't there two days ago in the Google Play Store but only after I switched my phone into airplane mode with Wifi and Bluetooth still enabled—I ran this as a test since some users on here said to make sure it was on Wifi and not cellular. Once Spotify updated, I left my airplane mode on just to see and my interface was no longer greyed out, it's back to full function. Turned off airplane mode, unplugged and replugged in Car Thing, still working. However. my Spotify app claims that Car Thing has an update still that won't get pushed through, either on or off airplane mode with Wifi enabled. I'm running off of app 0.24.107, os 6.3.29 currently.
