Memory Card support

Hi

Losing space on a flagship mobile device is ironic because you don't always have a memory card slot, unless you opt for a specific model or type of flagship device. Just like gaming, you should be able to move your download or app altogether, especially if it takes you a while to transfer data over the network. So some just quit because of the amount of clicking or prodding Touchscreens they have to do repeatedly. Of course, it's easy to do this with a desktop setup but are you really going to go through all that trouble of acquiring a monitor to connect to a smartphone and a keyboard unless you are a highly dedicated gamer, no problem there, but listening to music should not be troubling at all it should be accessible.

Even on a flagship mobile, you can occasionally plug in an OTG (On The Go) memory card reader or USB hub with a memory card slot at the very least, allowing you to transfer data to a DAP or another mobile device, such as a second phone.

Personally, I would rather have a USB Walkman thumb drive-sized, given current sizes of memory sticks or USB drives which rival most smartphones, the memory card slot would be a must even on newer versions, with Spotify support along with other apps because you can get this functionality in smartwatch format already.

The first noise-cancelling models are still available some new or some less sophisticated but that's another device without the support altogether from about two decades ago with radio, so we don't all need a screen just to listen to music all the time. But we could do with pairing and Shazam to identify music or grow music collections on the move rather than just waiting for algorithms to tip a hat.

For now, can we please have the ability to move data more easily on a flagship mobile device visible especially for those willing to go that way?

Best

Hey @SpencerThere,

We’re closing this idea since it doesn’t meet one of our Idea Exchange guidelines, namely point 5:“Making sure your idea is clear.

At this point, we don’t have enough information regarding what you'd like to see implemented. We appreciate the feedback and we get the sentiment, however your submission isn't specific or clear enough to be a valid suggestion. At the moment, SD cards are supported by Spotify and you can store your downloaded content there, see this article for more info. If there's something else you'd want to see implemented, then let us know in a short but clear and concise manner.

Feel free to submit a new idea - just make sure to familiarize yourself with the above guidelines. Before doing so, make sure this doesn’t overlap with existing features and haven’t been suggested already.

Thanks for understanding.
