Hello, Spotify team!
I would like to suggest the creation of a new subscription option: Spotify Premium Friends.
The idea would be to offer an option between the Individual and Family plans, specifically designed for people who want to share a subscription with friends but do not live in the same household.
- How would it work?
Premium Friends could allow, for example, 4 to 6 people to share a single subscription, with each person using their own Spotify account.
It could work similarly to the Family plan, but without requiring everyone to live at the same address.
For example:
- 1 account holder would be responsible for paying for the subscription.
- The account holder could invite up to 6 friends to join the plan.
- Each person would use their own account, keeping their playlists, saved music, listening history, and recommendations.
- Everyone would have access to the benefits of Premium Individual.
- The price would be higher than the Individual plan but lower than the combined cost of several individual subscriptions.
- The group could be changed periodically, with certain rules in place to prevent abuse or unlimited account sharing.
- Why create this plan?
The Family plan works very well for people who live together, but there is a group of users who fall somewhere in between: friends, college classmates, siblings who live separately, couples who do not live together, or small groups of people who simply want to share the cost of a subscription.
Currently, these users have to choose between paying for multiple individual subscriptions or using the Family plan, which requires everyone to live at the same address.
A Premium Friends plan would create an official, legitimate option within Spotify's rules for this audience.
For example, the subscription structure could look like this:
Spotify Premium Individual
- 1 person
Spotify Premium Duo
- 2 people who live together
Spotify Premium Friends
- Up to 6 people, with no requirement to live at the same address
Spotify Premium Family
- Up to 6 people living in the same household
I believe this model could be beneficial both for users and for Spotify, because it would transform a need that many people currently try to solve informally into an official, controlled, and monetized subscription option provided directly by the platform.
I hope you will consider this idea. I would definitely be interested in subscribing to a plan like this.
Thank you for your attention!

Hey @aksarmento,
Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Idea Exchange!
We’re closing this idea since it doesn’t meet one of our Idea Exchange guidelines, namely point 7: “No pricing, subscription or content related requests”
Changes to pricing or subscriptions are specific to each market around the world, same as the content available (that depends on the artist/rights holders), and we cannot influence those.
Thanks for understanding.
