[Subscription] Teacher Discount

It would be great if Spotify offered a teacher discount for Spotify Premium.  Increasingly I am using Spotify in my classroom, but it is frustrating to have to constantly monitor it and jolt across the classroom to mute the ads.  I am happy to support the artists I listen to by paying for Spotify Premium, except that with ever more budget constraints, especially to arts programs, it is not feasible to shell out $120/yr from the school's or my own personal budget.  I believe that if a teacher discount was offered, we would also be able to promote the use of Spotify with our own students thereby increasing Spotify's users.

Hey everyone,

It seems that this idea ended up in the wrong board accidentally, so we're bringing it back.

We're keeping the previous Case Closed status, as we don't have any immediate plans to implement this. As soon as we have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here.

Take care.

I am both a teacher and student and I know how both sides feel in regards to having a teacher/student discount. I currently teach English to high school/ college students in Mexico while also studying to become a doctor so I know the struggle of not being able to pay  $10/month. It would be really great if Spotify had a teacher/student discount because I personally use it every single day. Whether I'm studying or teaching, or just commuting to andand from, it's a great service. Please consider having a teacher/student discount.

The current update notes "You may only make personal, non-commercial, entertainment use of the content and, in signing up for an account, you have agreed and undertaken that you are using the content only in this manner." How exactly, would playing Spotify in a public school (in which no money CAN be made through its use, as that would violate federal and state laws governing public schools) be anything other than non-commercial, entertainment use of the content? In fact, under the classroom use exemption for copywrites (see https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/110), and fair use permissions (see https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/107) instructors and students at non-profit public schools can perform or display any music, of any length, as long as it is within the classroom. If a teacher were to use their institutional email address for their account, which allows you to verify their status the same way you are verfiying student accounts, I see very little justification for the current policy. I think you need to either be more judicious of your considerations regarding this suggestion, or you need to be more specific and accurate in your justification for denying it.

I would like to see a discounts for faculty as well. Using Spotify in the classroom in a non-profit organization should be OK. Thanks

We should be uplifiting our educators and helping as much as we can, even a slight discount would be benificial to those teacher. Also, it would benifit Spotify, the company, as well. A company being able to say they help communities by helpind educators bring music and art into a classroom; that sounds like great publicity to me. Extremly disappointing.

Teachers are exempt from large parts of copyright law when it comes to using materials in the classroom.  Many court cases have ruled that the violation for educational purposes is better for the community as a whole.  Meaning teachers can use songs, movies, book and tv shows for education purpose free from penalty.  Ask your legal department about this I'm sure they can give you a better understanding of this.

This would be something that thousands of teachers would subscribe to. I think it's a no brainer for you guys.
