Backstage Intro - Meet Matthew

Hey, folks!

I hope you’re doing well and having a great week. We have a new (well, maybe not that new) member of the Spotify Star Program that I would like to introduce to you. 

Are you ready? Say hi to Matthew a.k.a @pun10tial! 

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Yeah, I've just graduated with a business degree with first-class honours at the University of Greenwich in London, which isn't too shabby, and day-to-day I spend my time job-hunting and playing video games with my friends (we've recently gotten back into Rocket League), all whilst blasting music of course!

Wow, that’s impressive, congrats! I’m sure you’ll find something soon, in the meantime - have fun, and listen to all the music possible, while playing and enjoying life!

How did you come across the Community, and why did you decide to join the Star program?

I came across the community just over 3 years ago I think, because I wanted to know something (I may have come across a bug or I forgot how to do something, I can't quite remember) and ended up here and have been here since. Knowing a fair bit about technology is one of my few strengths and I like helping people so this community is a natural fit for me and it's been great being able to help so many people and hopefully improve their experience with Spotify, because it's such a great platform to use. 

We’re glad to have you! There are a few of us not as good at solving technical issues, so it’s always super handy to have a friend who knows how to fix these situations with the App.

How do you find it being a part of the Community? Has it been what you expected?

Yeah pretty much. Everyone's been super inviting and helpful, I've really begun to feel at home here and I'm super appreciative of everyone here for that.

It's all about our love for music, right? So, can you share your earliest memory related to music?

The very earliest thing I can think of is when I was a young kid watching a low-res Lego animation on YouTube someone made for Weird Al's The Saga Begins (a Star Wars parody of Don McLean's American Pie). I was (and still kind of am) a big Star Wars fan, plus it's a funny song to listen to so it was perfect

A bit later on in my childhood, around 2018 I think, I had 

gotten a PS4 and saw there was a way to listen to music in the background but using music streaming services (up to that point I just watched music videos on YouTube) and that's when I came across Spotify and started using it because I saw it was really popular and had Spotify Connect which was (and still is) super useful for controlling my music whilst I'm in the middle of a game and been using Spotify ever since, with the odd detour to try out alternatives but always came back to Spotify for its far better podcasts and music experience. 

It's always tricky to ask a music lover for their favorite…well anything 😄 : genre, artist, album, song... It depends on so many factors, but you got the idea. When it comes to music, what are your favorites? 

Yeah it's like choosing a favourite child, you secretly have one but don't want to upset the others (only kidding 

). Overall, my favourite music is rock/hard rock and metal as they're what I listen to most of the time but really I love all kinds of music. Like to put it into perspective, my top ten listened to artists of all time are Linkin Park, Taylor Swift, Slipknot and Eminem. Not far out of my top ten are Korn and Olivia Rodrigo, and one of my favourite pieces of music of all time is In The Hall of The Mountain King by 

Grieg... like how is that supposed to work???

One final thing, funnily enough one band I've been really liking lately is The Warning who also are from México and I 100% suggest checking them out if you like rock music and haven't heard them yet. If I wasn't broke I would bet money they will become one of the next massive rock bands with the way things are going for them now, they're super talented and keep getting stronger all the time.

Those are outstanding tunes, and those girls are the real deal (even though the things people said about their dad doing “all kinds” of things to promote their daughters, sadly, the haters are always going to be there, but the band's talent is bulletproof).  

I don’t know anybody who doesn’t enjoy “Weird Al Yankovic” - a legend.
