24bit/44,1khz tracks

24bit/44,1khz tracks

I have a premium account.

I cant find many 24bit/44,1khz tracks on spotify. Almost all tracks are 16bit/44.1

Is this correct? Perhapse wrong settings??

I live in the netherlands.

Hey there @sumelezukie!

Thanks for your question.

There’s nothing wrong with your app or settings. Spotify doesn’t offer a toggle to switch between 16-bit and 24-bit playback. Depending on the track and how it’s delivered, you might see both 16-bit/44.1 kHz and 24-bit/44.1 kHz available, but it isn’t something you can control in the app.

As for the difference, 24-bit has a higher dynamic range (more detail between the quietest and loudest parts). That said, 16-bit is already CD quality, and for most people, the jump to 24-bit is pretty subtle unless you’re using high-end gear in a quiet environment. More info here.

Hope this clears things up a bit! Let me know if you have more questions.

My Question or Issue

Did anyone actually found any songs that are available in 24bit?
A rather hard question to answer too, because the Spotify-App does not offer any information on the technical specs of the stream.
By using my audio-receiver at home I could check the technical specs and the only thing that changed when using the lossless option, was the use of FLAC and not PCM. I tried out many different songs from many current albums and none was 24bit.

Hey @Sirrus,

Thanks for posting in the Community. We've gone ahead and merged your thread here as it's on the same topic, and we hope that you don't mind.

Currently, the way to check if a song is streaming in 24-bit (or 16-bit) is when you're listening to it, open it and click on the Lossless option underneath, then select your device and it should reveal this info (File quality).

If you'd like, you can go ahead and create an Idea about this so that others would be able to add their vote in order to show support. Here you can find more info about what you have to know before submitting an Idea and if you create one, you can post it in the thread.

Hope this cleared things up and don't hesitate to let us know if you've got any other questions 🙂

THanks for your reply I understand the dynamic differences. On Spotify are not much tracks in 24bit. Spotify says that they have lossless tracks with 24bit...but i have found only 1!😁

Correct, there is no streaming in higher quality than 16bit 44.1khz at absolute best. Most tracks are still lower quality than this. Have not experienced anything remotely close to 24bit 44.1khz yet. So far this ‘upgrade’ is very gimmicky!

Incorrect, there is practically no 24bit 44.1khz media available yet to Spotify. At very best and only in certain circumstances is 16bit 44.1khz available. And also incorrect, there is a very big difference between 16bit and 24bit, listening on any equipment. Quite disappointed in Spotify, the 16bit 44.1khz sounds like there is a fog over it compared to tidals 16bit 44.1khz. Facts!!

Correct, no 24bit 44.1khz music available yet despite what the app settings say! At best there is 16bit but not common and even then, the 16bit/44.1khz on Spotify does not even compare to tidals 16bit 44.1. Literally sounds like a fog has lifted going from Spotify to tidal, same track. We’ve been grossly let down!

So in short, No! .. 16bit at very best for the most part currently.

Which one? I still have not even found one.

Hi,

I noticed that for example Kendrick Lamar GNX and Billie Eilish last album are only available in 16 bit (cd quality).

The official lossless version of theses albums (wich is available on Qobuz and Apple Music for example) is exactly 24 bits 48hz wich normally is fully supported by Spotify lossless.
Can you please explain and elaborate precisely and specifically on why it’s only 16 bits right now and not 24 bits 48hz  wich is a quality that Spotify lossless fully support? Thank you!

I just found 1......

album: Sentimental Journey by Nils Landgren.

Very surprising that more popular songs aren't up at this quality level and are only at 16/44. I was convinced I had a setting wrong to be stuck at 16/44 until I found this thread and confirmed that this album does come through at 24/48 on my devices. Thanks for finding this, I certainly never would have.

I just found another 24 bit album.

album: It's Happening by Night Cap

Listening to it now on Spotify and comparing it to other lossless streaming services and it sounds great!

Edit: Sorry removed redundant part of the message.  I didn't realize the above went through.

Anyway, It's 24bit 44.1 khz FLAC.

And yes thank you for the other recommendation.  It sounds great also.

I think the reason there is not much 24 bit album currently on Spotify  is the following problem:

-Nowaday one of the most common/standard master given to dsp is 24 bits / 48hz (Kendrick Lamar gnx, Billie Eilish Hit me hard and soft , etc )

-The issue here is that Spotify lossless cap at 24 bit 44hz .

Therefore all these master are too high, and so I assume Spotify then take the “cd quality 16 bit 44hz” instead.

The solution imo ? Spotify could up the max sample rate to 48hz 😉

I just came here to post that I'm extremely disappointed that so far not one single song out of about 2k songs i listen to are in any higher quality than they were before, 16bit. they might even sound a bit worse??? Its completely unacceptable to release lossless after such an extremely long wait time to just lie to us and deploy lossless that is just 16bit all over again. I was so excited, for nothing at all. You guys need to actually support 24bit audio across a MAJORITY of new and remastered songs, at whatever hz is required 44/48 idc. TERRIBLE ROLL OUT SPOTIFY!

wasting your time pointing out the small difference in 'quality' 16bit and 24bit on a post for Spotify lossless. THATS WHAT WE WANT, the SMALL DIFFERENCE! SMH
that's exactly what we are asking for, lossless quality where available. 16bit can be lossless, but not if there is a 24bit copy available... we want the full maximum quality. 'lossless' cd rip to 16bit PCM is not the same as a 24bit copy of a song created in 24bit in the first place. Been sitting here waiting for a streaming service to provide 24bit audio since damn 2000! the heck???!!!
