Why were all my Anita Baker songs elimintated?  Looks like all songs have been removed completely from Spotify except for duets and live recordings.  Explanation?

Hey @MIkki84

The availability of music on Spotify is up to the artists and their music label.

If the music is unavailable, the artist or their music label has likely decided to not make it available in Spotify.

Sometimes the music is only available in certain countries, while access is blocked to others.

Sometimes the album or song will be unavailable temporary, and come back again later. Hopefully it will come back later.

Contacting the artist is a good way to let them know you miss their music in Spotify.

More info here. 🙂

I'm wondering the exact same thing!!

Why is it taking Spotify so long to respond?   This is a very simple request.  Why did you take all of the Anita Baker songs out of my playlists? I'm gonna start exploring other options.

Hello there and welcome to the community ?

First of all what country are you in ?

I am not a specialist of Anita Baker discography but here is what I see on my artist page :

- Rapture : album from 1986

- Giving you The Best That I Got : album from 1988

- Compositions : album from 1990

- The Songstress : album from 1991

- Rhythm Of Love : album from 1994

- The Best Of Anita Baker : album 2002

- One Night Only : Live album 2015

Availability of music in streaming is up to the artists and/or their labels or representatives.

Spotify wants all the music in the world to stream and works hard daily for it. Unfortunately, sometimes by artists/labels decision or because of licensing problems, music already available can be temporary/permanently removed or not available at all.

When it's a licensing problem it can lead to have an album removed from some countries and still available only in some other countries. When it's a licensing problem we can expect a quick solution and see the missing albums coming back.

When it's an artist and/or label decision, Spotify will continue to work hard to try to convince them to have all the catalog available to stream.

I'm in the United States,.  Not only are most of those albums not listed anymore when I do a search, but the songs from those albums, that were incorporated into my playlists, are now missing as well.  Just like most of the people I talk to that use Spotify, I spend a lot of time putting together playlists.  To have songs pulled out of my playlists, without any notice or explanation is unacceptable.

@kseajones-us

I did a deeper search and apparently it seems that all the albums missing are, unfortunately, only missing in USA.

As it's only missing in one country, it's almost sure that the albums will come back soon, when, certainly a licensing problem, will be fixed.

Whatever it is, it's not a Spotify decision to have the albums removed.

And btw, if an album is not available, it's normal that the songs coming from it, appear unavailable in playlists.

What I suggest is that you keep the songs in your playlist, they will appear greyed out, but when the problem will be fixed they will reappear available.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Thank you for your response.  Maybe they appear greyed out on some other platform.  They're just completely missing on my iPad.  Anyway, If it's a short term problem and the songs are restored to their playlists, that will be okay.

@kseajones-us

It's possible that on "preferences" your setting for your ipad is : "don't show tracks not available"

You see missings songs greyed out when the setting is "show unavailable tracks"

I was wondering the same thing... Anita Baker is my favorite artist.. This is very upsetting..

What happened to all of My Anita Baker music!????????

@meghan_monroe

The availability of music on Spotify is up to the artists and their music label, so the reason is that the artist or their music label has likely decided to remove it from Spotify.

Sometimes the album or song will be unavailable temporary, and come back again later.

Hopefully it will come back later.

Hey, Meghan. I just found out that her whole catalog is on Tidal. She probably owns her master recordings and got tired of Spotify not pay her much of percentage of streams.

I wondered the same thing because I was listening to her radio and it took me a while to realize her songs weren't playing that often. I'm really aggravated with that. She's my vibe music!

Very upset! All my anita is gone!! This is horrible!

This article makes it sound like it was Anita's choice:

http://thegrio.com/2015/11/19/anita-baker-apple-music-theft-piracy/

We want her back. Inmediately!  And are still waiting an answer from Spotify!

I fully understand.
These are legal issues often times, other times an artist or executive gets a wild hair growing in the wrong direction or place.
As a third party source/provider, distributor, your company only supply what you're given access to.
My wife loves Anita Baker's music. She really puzzled this week on a cross country family trip from Indianapolis to Houston. Why are the same 3 songs constantly playing. I told her, Anita has probably pulled a "Prince" and had her music removed.
I truly enjoy Spotify, I think you guy are the BEST and definitely my FAVORITE.

Go to SoundCloud find someone who posted her song the add it to your playlist on your desktop. There are instructions on google on how to add your OWN songs to Spotify and add them to your playlist. This is how I add a lot of songs they don't have on Spotify. When I find the link with instructions I'll post again

Hi Spotify. I have read all the comments and that was earlier in the year when you replied it is 10.12.16. What is going on with the Anita Baker music... Please get it back. TIFFANY

Evidently it was not short term as there is very limited music still her in almost November 2016 for Anita Baker. The same happened to all my Prince music. If this continues I will have to cancel my membership with Spotify.
