My Question or Issue
Many explicit podcasts are on Spotify that are not marked as explicit. See attached example. My tween has access to the attached podcast and other similar ones even though I set her account to screen for explicit material. Aside from Spotify’s failure to block this material in the first place, there is also no way to even report the content so it will be properly marked in the future, but the most important thing would be for Spotify to block it in the first instance, OR eliminate your family plans and tell parents directly that Spotify has no interest in a family friendly environment so we know that before we sign up.
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!
Something you can do is look for the podcast in the Podcasts tab of your Home feed on the mobile app and tap the three dots on an episode > Not interested. Check out the screenshots below for more details:
Go to "Home" and select "Podcasts & Shows" at the top
Find a podcast episode, tap the three dots menu and select "Not interested"
We're also actively working on granting Family plan managers additional control over the available content on the platform (such as limiting access to videos and podcasts), making it more suitable for listeners who are too old for a Kids account, but still too young for a standalone Spotify account.
There's more info on the topic in this article, check it out if you're interested.
Currently, this feature is available only in certain regions and although we're unable to provide an exact ETA at this time, rest assured we plan on expanding its reach to more markets in the future.
Hope this clears things up. The Community is here if there's anything else you need assistance with.
I'm not happy about my young daughter finding out what oral looks like because of the explicit podcast cover-art despite the explicit content filter being toggled on our family account. I think a law suit may get spotify to care.
Spotify is deliberately pushing adult content to teenagers' screens!!! Taking away their freedom to listen to music while studying, relaxing. Shame on you! There is all kinds of media to reach useless video, stay in music. You should "mean" to control your platform, not "look like" trying...
2025 and still the same issue. Why isn’t Spotify addressing it??
This is still an issue. Having to cancel our family's Spotify subscription.
Because they only care about maximizing profits. Unless they are legally required to do so (as they are in other countries), or unless they decide it is financially beneficial because they are losing too many families (unlikely since most parents are not aware), they will not make any changes.
