My Question or Issue

I apologize in advance if my question was previously posted and answered.

How are the 15 hours of Audiobooks calculated for Premium subscribers?  Is it by real-time or the length of time assigned to the audiobook?

For example: if I listen to a chapter that is 30 minutes long, but play it a 2x speed.  At the end of the chapter, will I have used 30 minutes or 15 minutes?

Thank you in advance for your time and response.

Hey @JosueH,

Thanks for reaching out.

Spotify counts the audiobook listening time used based on each playback of an audiobook at normal speed. This means:

  • Adjusting the speed of the playback won’t affect the amount of audiobook listening time included/remaining in your allocation; and
  • If you relisten to a book, or part of the book, your allocated audiobook listening time will continue to reduce as normal.

For example, if you listen to a 5-hour audiobook at 2x speed, even if you finish the audiobook in 2.5 hours, your audiobook listening time is reduced by 5 hours since that’s the length of the book at normal speed. If you relisten to the whole book, your audiobook listening time is reduced by another 5 hours.

I hope this clears things up 🙂
