Music only app for teenagers?

My Question or Issue

I can see this has been posted many times before but am this close to quitting Spotify if something isn’t done immediately. My 12 year old has been really enjoying the app to make her own playlists and discover some new podcasts but holy cow, the sexual content in the suggested audiobooks is vile and we can’t even remove them!! We have switched off explicit content but for some reason books such as ‘a love song for liars’ still shows, and she can watch video podcasts such as ‘my obsessive mom controls my life’. She’s a good kid and I don’t want her seeing this stuff (obsessive mom much?), if Spotify doesn’t start a teen account ASAP for music and modified podcast/audiobook content that we can manage until she is older and wiser we are out!

Totally understand your concern. You’ve already done the right thing by turning off Explicit Content, but some content (like audiobooks or video podcasts) might not always be labeled the same way. One great option could be trying Spotify Kids — it’s a separate app made just for kids, available with Premium Family.

It features handpicked music, no explicit content, and tools for grown-ups to manage what’s accessible. Just a heads-up though: if you share a playlist with explicit songs, they’ll still play in the Kids app, so it’s a good idea to review the playlist before sharing it.

We tried Spotify kids but our 12yr old is not a kid (even our 8yo hates how limiting it is), she found the inability to make her own playlists and search for new music infuriating (so did we!). Are there no plans to make a teen friendly version of the app?

Currently, Spotify Kids is the only option available for kids under the age of 13. We don't have any further news to share at this time, but we really appreciate your input on this.

Agree 1000% with this person's concern.

1. Spotify podcasts essentially include hardcore **bleep** and there is no way for parents to eliminate access. Most of the content is fine but any 12 YO can find the bad stuff in minutes.

2. Spotify kids sucks. Nobody over the age of 10 wants to have anything to do with it. 

Every response I've seen from Spotify can be boiled down to WE Don't CARE.
