The 'made for you' feature being an automatic feature on so many playlists is just meaning every single playlist sounds the same and has the same songs in it!
The reason I want to listen to a different playlist is because I want new music not to be pushed the exact same songs I am already listening to - half of them don't even match the genre.
An option to disable this feature and just listen to the default Spotify version would be really useful as it is getting really tedious.
Also sometimes you listen to a playlist with someone else and your like oh I really like these tracks they share the playlist and then it's all different because you are logged in. Seems to defeat the object of a playlist.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hey Spotify, do you have a solution for this? How do I turn off "made for you"? It's ruining all of my favourite/current favourite songs.
Agree with all the users in this thread. I have a family plan, so as a work around I have set up a couple variant accounts just to try and re-wire Spotify’s “Made for me” profile for various moods I’m in.
Tik tok has a new feature outside the US that lets you turn off their algorithm and just view universal content. Spotify needs to adopt that too.
Listening to music should be an expansive experience that exposes us to everything. Spotify’s algorithm just feeds us what we liked listening to over the past year but it excludes way too many deep tracks and interesting stuff. It makes it really hard to discover stuff that’s new and unusual to us and it’s made me look at other streaming services that make it easier for me to listen to a broader spectrum of songs.
Wanted to voice this concern as well. I can’t seem to escape the same songs anymore. I’ve found myself listening to less and less music because every playlist is “made for you”. I want to discover new music (and my discover weekly playlist has lately been pulling in songs and artists I already listen to). I’m so sick of the made for you feature. It’s really ruined Spotify for me and am considering leaving it because I just become so frustrated that every playlist and radio serves me the same songs that I’ve already skipped or already have on my personal playlists. Please consider an opt out option or my free trial of Apple Music will be where I migrate to.
I am so frustrated about the “made for you” aspect of song and artist radios. I listen to a wide variety of music. If I go to Glass Animals radio, I expect to hear music that is like Glass Animals. That is the entire point. But if I spend a weekend with my girlfriends taking a Taylor Swift detour, now Spotify thinks it is accurate or appropriate to put a Taylor Swift song as the second song in Glass Animals radio?! That is absurd and infuriating. Please please please undo this or give us the option to turn it off. What if I give my phone to my kid? Now the Frozen soundtrack is part of Ska radio? Absolutely moronic. This undermines the entire value of paying for spotify as opposed to other music services.
They’ve had two years to fix this. TWO YEARS. This app has rendered itself useless. The responses from their team on the issue was the last straw. Never thought I’d consider switching to Apple until now.
I echo what everyone else here has said. The Made For Me feature has completely taken over 80% of the playlists I follow. Now playlists I used to love, such as the Is this New Wave? playlist, have just become a regurgitation of the same 20 songs it feeds me on every other semi related playlist. And sometime it doesn't even make any sense at all what it is choosing to put on a list. It's made the entire user experience so BORING and so, so repetitive. I love the daily mixes and so on, but I do not want every genre playlist in my library feeding me the same songs!
This has been such a frustration of mine that I have become more and more aware of over the last month or so. Spotify has clearly made a substantial change in how it builds out "song radio" playlists and "artist" playlists and "autoplay". I 100% agree with ccirou3 above.
Additionally I have noticed a similar poor algorithm when I play an individual song and have autoplay turned on to continue playing more songs. The newer algorithm that Spotify uses continuous plays the same 50-150 songs that have been in my recent listening history that sort of match with the individual song that I selected. This did not used to be the case and it was so much better when Spotify would rely more on the individual song or artist to build it's own playlist or queue from rather than my recent listening history. Spotify is quickly going down the drain and is becoming a daily frustration to use.
I agree this is so infuriating to me. It’s incredibly difficult to find new music on Spotify nowadays especially if you want to dive into a new genre, all the made for you playlists show me songs I’m already listening to and have heard countless times before. Listening to these songs is not the reason I’m trying to search for a playlist that’s not mine. I wish there was an option to opt out of this or at least disable the “made for you” for certain playlists. The only way for me to find new music is using other platforms. SoundCloud etc.
Moderator can you please respond whether this is an issue that Spotify plans to fix by adding an on/off toggle for made for you on Spotify radio playlists? Need to know whether I am cancelling my family plan, Spotify has become useless for new music and I am so tired of the same 20 songs.
I guess I need to cancel my subscription.
I've had the same issue and this really bugs me. I'm seriously debating deleting my spotify account because of how ridiculous it is. First my Spotify Car Thing gets auto shut down and now I have to listen to what is basically my liked songs when I'm trying to find new music? If it weren't such a hassle to switch streaming services, I would have already. I love the layout and compatability of spotify but some of these things you are trying to do to "improve the app" just makes everything worse. Please add an option to turn off "made for you" playlists/radios! 🙏🙏🙏
Radios are trash at this point, I hate this so much. I used to use radio feature to explore new music, not listen to my own playlist. No matter the artist, radio will always play songs from my library 85% of the time..
Absolutely agree with all the commentary around how switching everything to “Made for You” is ruining the listening experience. I went back to some old playlists I loved only to find they also have transformed to the most recent music I’ve been listening to. Spotify need to allow users to turn this off and stop pushing these playlists. It absolutely needs to remove made for you from the radio options. Will be looking for others apps to see if I can find a better option- bummer since I’ve been using Spotify for 15 years!
Echoing what everyone else here is saying. Spotify, PLEASE give us an option to turn off the Made for You feature. It's toxic and completely ruining the listening experience on your app. I want to discover new music via Spotify playlists and radio - not listen to exactly the same songs I've already created my own playlists of. We are tired!!! Please address this!
Agree with all of this feedback. Spotify, PLEASE add an option to toggle off "Made for You". I used to explore new music through Spotify playlists, but now it seems like my old favorite Spotify playlists have become "Made for You" shells of what they once were. All the same songs everywhere. I used to get so excited when my favorite Spotify playlists would get updated because I'd have new artists to explore. Now they're updated by AI almost constantly... to perfectly match the music I am already listening to.
It totally feels like it got worse recently. I mean, I'm posting in the support community which is something I literally never do for anything. It's BAD.
+1 Add me to the list. This is such a let-down. Pretty sure I will cancel my subscription in the next month because of it. 😞
This is very frustrating for previous reasons already mentioned by people. Will definitely consider cancelling my subscription.
Hi I’m also experiencing this in my playlist and my friends have also mentioned that all of their playlists sound the same and that they’re thinking of going with Apple Music. Excluding from your taste profile doesn’t help this problem. I’ve been thinking of deleting my account and creating a new one in hopes of having a chance to listen to the original playlists, but I would lose the other playlists I made over the years. If Spotify could give people the option to opt out of the “made for” playlists that would keep a lot of people using Spotify.
Please fix this.
