Podcast restarting when I go in between apps and back to Spotify app

My Issue is that whenever I start a video podcast I can let it play and the audio will still continue even if I switch to another app but once I go back to Spotify app it loses all progress and restarts the podcast.

I’m experiencing the same issue of my podcast restarting when I switch between apps & then back to the Spotify app. It’s happened multiple times within the last day. Also, if I manually pause the podcast at some point & then continue listening, then if I switch apps & return back to Spotify, the podcast actually reverts back to my last pause. It’s still inconvenient because I still have to manually find the previous time of where I left off in the podcast. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max. I’m using the iOS 15.3.1. My Spotify app is up to date and is the version 8.7.20.

I'm having the same issue as well. Been on with Spotify support for 3 hours with the final solution to be to call Apple. Currently on with the second Apple Advisor who can't figure it out either. I'd be really sad to delete Spotify but there's no point in paying for it if this is what it's going to be doing permanently.

Making it an uncomfortable experience to enjoy long podcasts like JRE.

Same exact issue here. iPhone 12 Pro. Seems to be isolated to podcasts only.

It seems to only be doing this to JRE and Lex Fridman. I tried a few other podcasts and they are working fine. Can anyone confirm if it's happening on other podcasts?

You’re right I think …I tried listening to another podcast and it’s working like it used to work…why would it be just for the JRE & Lex podcasts. Sounds fishy .

Same issue with JRE in multiple shows, started happening 3 days ago after a recent Spotify update.

After more testing it seems to only be podcasts with video like JRE and Lex Fridman. I don't know any other podcasts with video. Can anyone else confirm if they are experiencing this with a different video podcast?

To fix this issue, I went to data saver in settings and changed it to “stream audio only”. This will solve the problem of the podcast restarting when changing between apps.

Same annoying issue. However, I went to the App Store and saw an update. Issue seems to have gone away since the update.

I believe new app update has fixed it for me
