My Question or Issue

I am encountering an issue where some songs are being auto translated into English, when I would prefer for them to be in their orignal language (Japanese). If I were to search that artist via Google, I am able to correctly get the Japanese titles to show in the web app. If I then favourite a song from the web app, I'm able to see the Japanese title reflected on the Desktop App.

Not only does this make identifying songs harder, in some cases, I have duplicated songs that have been liked, as I initially liked them when the titles were in Japanese, then liked them again when the auto-translation feature was implemented.  I've added an example where I have favourited two identical albums, one in Japanese, one in English.

English:

Japanese:

Song 3 and Song 7 are the same song favourited twice due to auto-translate:

Language is set to Japanese for all apps. I have also tried clearing the cache and restarting all apps.

Is there a way to prevent this from occuring?

Hey @Yuxie,

Thank you for taking the time to post this detailed information here in the Community. Apologies for the late reply, we've just come across this thread.

Could you please let us know if you see those songs auto translated on your mobile device as well?

We'd also appreciate it if you could tell us the exact Spotify version you're currently running on your devices.

We'll be on the lookout for your update.

Hey Lyubka,

Thanks for your response.

On windows, it is using version 1.2.10.760.g52970952

On android, it is using version 8.8.36.521

I can see the exact same thing occuring on my phone as well. If I favourite an album already in Japanese, after finding it from Google, then those songs show up in Japanese. But just browsing by artist to find this exact same album, it shows up auto-translated.

If I favourite both the Japanese and auto-translated album, they will both show up, and the songs will also be doubled under the list of songs favourited for that artist.

Thanks

Hey @Yuxie,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We've forwarded this to the relevant team here at Spotify, however, we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, please make sure to keep your app up-to-date.

Cheers,

stop translate non English title to English or at least create a settings to change that

I really need this feature, I hope the official can set up a custom switch

真的得改,

almost 2025 and yet my japanese song titles keep auto translating to english lol

When will this be fixed? The auto-translation really bothers me, I can barely recognize my favorite songs anymore

Me too, it’s annoying me so badly

It messes up my stats and gets newly added to my liked songs playlist since it gets counted as a different song, which is really annoying to me. I know it might sound nit-picky but it gets on my nerves really badly because I’ve listened to the Japanese title versions a lot and if I listen to the English title version it gets counted as if I just started listening to the song and so doesn’t add up correctly in my stats. If they counted as the same song and didn’t cause the problems I named, it wouldn’t bother me.

I just navigate them through my liked songs which gets really bothersome sometimes. I really wish Spotify would give the option to turn this feature on and off, it’s very frustrating
