Release Radar - only 30 tracks max

Release Radar - only 30 tracks max

Hi,
I used to have between 100-200 tracks every friday on release radar, this week I only got 30.

It seems it's the 'default' number when you don't follow lots of artists (which is not my case, I follow almost 2000 artists)

How can I get back to getting all the new releases ?
Thank you !

Hi there folks,

Thanks for all the replies. We've done some investigating on our end and can confirm that Release Radar is supposed to be 30 tracks and that is its usual intended length. If you have or had more songs, we can conclude that this has probably been some sort of intermittent temporary behavior or the list has been influenced by some external factors. We understand that you may prefer a longer Release Radar, so we'll definitely take note of the feedback you've given us in this thread and send it over to the right people.

Hope this clears things up.

Now it's officially 30 on the web browser as well. I'm actually shocked. I've never been more angry with your "customer service". As soon as I find a replacement for your services, I will be moving asap. What an absolutely horrendous business practice. 12 years of loyalty thrown away.

This is awful, I've had 200 tracks on my release radar for the past five years. It was not some kind of intermittent bug. Please restore it.

Edit: Not only do I only have 30 tracks this week, but half of them are from previous weeks and there's track I already liked.

How can we downvote this response? I've had 200 tracks on my release radar for the past five years.

There.

(Edit: this was in reply to laczadesign, but the post moved here for some reason.)

Interesting. The web player shows 1h 45m, but when I hit the big green button, it plays a song that's not even there among those 30 songs! Moreover, it happens to be by the artist whose artwork is the playlist icon.

Then I log out and go back to the playlist page, and it's suddenly 8h 30m! And that song is the first in the playlist. Coincidence? Don't think so!

And my username is all messed up. In other playlists in shows correctly. Spotify is definetely cooking something there.

So what's the best Spotify alternative? It's a shame to have to change (and a massive pain in the **bleep**) but I've never really liked it that much anyway. The fact I can't organise my library the way I want it (eg groups of albums) really annoys me.

Looks like the web player got limited to 30 tracks as well now, at least for me, happened while listening to Release Radar yesterday, maybe after pausing the playback and continuing later.

Incredible depressing and no solution. And is the only dev reply we gotten a bot or something? How can they think reinstall would solve an issue among multiple clients and a choice by Spotify.

I’m suspecting this is a new way for Spotify to not pay artists. If you don’t know the people you follow are releasing new music, then they don’t have to pay them.

Joan's post is btw. very untrue. I have a playlist  in which I saved some of the release radar lists I wanted to keep before the friday reset. It was created in 2021 and you can clearly see that every week the release radar been over 30 tracks for several years.

I easily transferred the bands I follow on Spotify to Tidal using a tool.

I also use this tool to automatically transfer the release radar from Spotify to Tidal.

120 songs were transferred here this Friday (I don't see these in Spotify).

Looks like the web app has been updated too, and now Spotify claims that Release Radar was always meant to be limited to 30 tracks, which is honestly a blatant lie. It seems pretty clear to me that they’ve likely struck a deal with record labels to push specific artists and agendas onto users. I get that this is a business move, but it feels really unfair to alienate loyal customers just to make a quick buck. I’ve followed over 2,000 artists and loved the excitement of waiting until 11:59 to see my Release Radar update with new songs I actually care about. This change will definitely affect how I use and feel about Spotify.

I just sent an email to complain and ask what's happening. This is the response:

"Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out! We want more than nothing but for you to enjoy listening to your music seamlessly. Not to worry, we're here to help you.

We're sorry to hear you're unhappy. We’re always working on new ways to improve Spotify and really appreciate your feedback on this!

We hope you’ll continue to use the app and find it gets better in future.

If there's anything else we can help you with, kindly let us know and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Kind Regards

xxx
Spotify Customer Support"

That's customer service for you. I'm going to have a play with Tidal and see if that's a viable alternative.

update: Today my release radar got reduced to 30 songs on the web browser version, as well. So, I'm thinking, why do I support Spotify? So I can skip the ads? And why did I "invest" 4+ years to "train" the app letting it know which bands and songs I like if I am to listen to 30 songs and after that just a radio from the last one? Am I gonna be able to follow my bands and artists, keeping tabs on their new singles and albums? How disappointing. And for that??

For now, I have to manually add new releases from artists I have follow via the " whats new " section like a peasant. Thanks Spotify Screenshot 2024-08-17 at 17.46.48.png

I have over 3k liked artists and used to get a fat, 200 song, Release Radar every week. It has now been trimmed to 30 songs. All I care about is discovering new music and this is something I'd consider leaving Spotify over. I also used to work for Spotify and used to know the guy who built everynoise. Spotify is getting dumb.

This is kind of a deal breaker for me. Yesterday, I could see my usual 200 in the web player after coming to this forum, but now it is also trimmed to 30.

not for looong. me 2, but as of last week I'm down to 30 songs and I've spent hours and hours "training" Spotify with likes and dislikes and saving songs to my own playlists. All for nothing...

yeah but who's to say that the number will increase again and, if so, not drop to 30 songs yet again? oh my...

I recently hit 1300 followed artists. My "Release Radar" should have around 170 songs but it only has 30.
