My Question or Issue

While listening to some music that is a perfect fit for driving, I decided to go on Google to search up the soundtrack to an old racing game by the name of Test Drive Unlimited 2 and try to add some of the songs from that game into my main playlist.

I came across one song named Running Wild by an artist named CunninLynguists. After spending about 30 minutes searching for the song on the Spotify app, I couldn't find it. After a very short Google Search for the song and artist, I quickly found a link to the album, on Spotify. This page shows the song, the album, and every song on that album as well as how long each one is, yet none of them exist within the app? What is going on here? If this was a basic licensing issue or similar where the artist and/or label didn't want their songs on this album to be on Spotify, then why would they be shown here?

I have noticed this on other songs and albums in the past, but never took the time to come here about it until now.

I have enabled the settings for allowing explicit content and showing hidden content, but these still don't show up.

Hi there @spencer_britton,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to aid you in your music discovery.

Spotify would like to make all the world's music available, but this availability can vary over time and between countries, depending on the permissions from rights holders. If you see the songs within a playlist or album, but they appear greyed out and unplayable, this means that these tracks were available on the platform at some point but were subsequently removed for whatever reason. It's also possible that only certain songs from an album become unavailable, while others remain.

On the other hand, new content is added to Spotify every day. If you can’t find something you’re looking for now, it may appear (or reappear) soon. Meanwhile you can try to reach the artists through their social media channels! Fingers crossed that your favourite tunes become available again 🙂

Hope this clears things up.

8s this an automated response? It is word-for-word identical to a response in a similar thread. The difference here, however, is that this album is already on Spotify, it just doesn't show up on the app.

I doubt these songs are unavailable in the US due to region-locking, considering this band is from Kentucky and this specific song was widely distributed in a prevent video game set, and sold in the US.

If these files were removed from Spotify due to licensing issues, it would make sense for any given playlist that had these songs already on them to show them as "unavailable" or grayed-out, but they shouldn't still be shown on the website as part of Spotify as this one is. Spotify had all of the songs from this album clearly displayed, as well as the entire album. They just aren't accessible from the app at all. If these songs are truly unavailable, then any links to them in Spotify should return a 404 error just as any deleted webpage would.
