User Notifications

Good evening,

I was wondering what the thing is with notifications? So far I have found it very usefull, receiving updates when new music from artists I follow comes online or when somebody adds music to a playlist I use. Today however, I received an update that a band I am not following (and also not interested in) has new music. Will Notifications be used for spam from now on? Or is it just a one-time mistake?
