My Issues

1. Problem: Last year the Linux desktop client did not start anymore on my Intel Core Duo T9300 machines. Looking into Terminal error messages revealed that a CPU feature is now mandatory which is not supported by this type of CPU. I know, it is a rather old CPU, but Linux is known for keeping those devices alive. Now this device is not usable a a music station anymore.

2. Problem: Starting last year, I more or less regularly (each 2 or 3 month) get error messages about missing signing key while system update. The whole update of such a Linux machine is blocked by that! One has to use the terminal to add the signing key manually again. Sorry, but that sucks!

3. Problem: glibc problem on Linux Mint 21.3 (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS basis) - Spotify demands 2.38 version, but version 2.35 is in the system. 2.38 cannot be added due to dependency reasons! So to listen to Spotify on such a machine, one has to upgrade to Mint 22.x! Mint 21.3 ist still maintained til April 2027, so we are NOT talking about an outdated OS.

4. Problem: CPU hunger. I understand that spotify is not a simple text editor, but the CPU hunger of the current Spotify Desktop player is ridiculous. I have the fastest i7 4th gen (more than 7700 Passmark points) and 16GB RAM, but NO other application uses so much CPU.

In my opinion Spotify has (again) only a very low focus on Linux users and it would be great, if those issues would come to your attention. I'm really disappointed...

The biggest issue to me is the fact that automatic updates on Linux Mint appear to just stop working when Spotify needs a new public key, which requires manual intervention. It hasn't done this automatically yet on any system that I've seen this happen on. I will probably be switching to the Flatpak because of this.

In OPs case it might be a good idea to switch to the web player since your CPU is no longer supported by the client. I think it's unlikely they will undo that change.
