My Question or Issue
Local files are no longer played and recognized by Spotify
I have the same problem!
I am using Spotify Premium on Ubuntu 24.04 running on an Acer with Intel Core Ultra 7 258V.
I have a friend who solved it for me, he installed a .DEB version of Spotify and reloaded/uploaded all the local files from the source in this version. Hopefully this helps for you
20260228 Edit/Update: Tried the usual remove folder uncheck local file, recheck re-add folder but same issue. I uninstalled the Snap and installed the .deb package but same result. So reinstalled the snap b/c I prefer those as it keeps things cleaner. The link below, while helpful, didn't solve the issue. A wild guess is that it doesn't like something about the format of type of audio file. I might experiment with that later. Everything else works though...
Using the Snap version of the Spotify client and having similar issues, Specifically, "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it."
Will try and stick with the Snap version for now and see if I can get it to work. I am fairly new to Spotify (and the apps) so I wonder if sample rate and codec can causes issues as well? I know it doesn't like .flac format.
try this:
bash
# Remove the broken revision 92
sudo snap remove spotify
# Install the working revision 89
sudo snap install spotify --revision 89
# IMPORTANT: Hold it so it doesn't auto-update back to broken 92
sudo snap refresh --hold spotify
# Launch and test
spotify &
Something about codecs... Because the local files could be played on my Samsung Android, not on my laptop. So I think the codecs were not included in the most recent SPotify update?
revert back to previous version until it is fixed in next revision.
Revision 89 working for me now to play local files again after switching back.
