Pulse Audio

Pulse Audio

Does Spotify require pulse audio? Especially of recent updates?

Using the debian package repo a recent update broke audio. The error log seemed to indicate an issue with connecting to a service, and after installing PulseAudio it worked fine.

My guess is that it requries PulseAudio but doesn't pull it in as a dependency.

Can you provide the following information?

1. What device you're using

2. Device's operating system (version).

3. The exact Spotify version installed (check About Spotify)

4. Did you have audio issues with all tracks on Spotify or specific tracks only?

Device 1:

Device: Thinkpad X220

OS: Debian Stretch

Spotify: 1.0.15.137.gbdf68615

It is with all tracks. Web player works fine. Desktop player shows it is playing but doesn't produce sound. Other applications work fine, as well.

Device 2:

Device: Dell M6800

OS: Ubuntu 14.04

Spotify: 1.0.15.137.gbdf68615
Same issue, but fixed after manually installing pulse audio.

I experience the same problems.

No pulse -> No sound

Pulse -> Sound

Is there any official statement to why this is the case?

Kernel: Linux 4.2.3-1

Spotify: 1.0.16.104-1
