Hi, fellow penguin fans!
Today we've pushed version 0.9.11.26 of the Linux desktop client to our public repo. Just update your system!
General release notes: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Release-Notes-Spotify-for-Desktop-0-9-11/...
Linux specific changes:
- collectionCache.bnk is no longer written to $HOME
Known issues:
- It still doesn't work to drag from an HTML5 view to a legacy view (such as the sidebar).
- On first start, the HTML5 views may not appear (just empty black views), try restarting the app if it happens
- Some users have reported problems with the new track change notifications. If you experience problems, you can start the client with "spotify --ui.track_notifications_enabled=false", or you can edit the file called ~/.config/spotify/Users/<your-spotify-username>-user/prefs and add a line with "ui.track_notifications_enabled=false". Sorry for not having this option available in the UI.
- No 32-bit build is available
- This build is not compatible with debian squeeze or wheezy
If you don't already have the Linux client installed, install like this:
# 1. Add our repository. As root or with sudo, create # a file called /etc/apt/sources.list.d/spotify.list and add # "deb http://repository.spotify.com/stable non-free" to it. # Here's a one-liner: sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://repository.spotify.com/stable non-free" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/spotify.list' # 2. If you want to verify the downloaded packages, # you will need to add our public key sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 94558F59 # 3. Run apt-get update sudo apt-get update # 4. Install spotify! sudo apt-get install spotify-client You don't have a debian based system? Well, it's still possible to get things running. Either you convert the debian package to something else using alien, or you can just download and extract the stuff you need from the package. There is no need to install the client, it can be run from anywhere. # 1. Get the right filename SPOTIFY_DEB=http://repository-origin.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify/spotify-client_0.9.11.26.g995ec04.78-1_`uname -m | sed s/x86_64/amd64/ | sed s/i686/i386/`.deb # 2. Download the package wget repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify/$SPOTIFY_DEB # 3. Extract the required parts ar p $SPOTIFY_DEB data.tar.gz | tar -zx --strip-components=3 ./opt/spotify/spotify-client # 4. Go in to the extracted folder cd spotify-client # 5. Setup symlinks to libs (NOTE: this script assumes Fedora 17, edit to suit your needs) ./linklibs-fedora.sh # 6. Optionally register icons and menu item # Note: for the menu item to work, you need to ensure # spotify is in your $PATH, either by symlinking # it from /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin, or by adding # the spotify-client folder to your $PATH ./register.sh

I'm on Mint 17. Spotify will occasionally lock up my system with no mouse interaction. The only solution is is to kill the spotify process. This is an issue I had when Spotify for Linux first came out (2+ years ago). Please keep an eye on this issue.
Spotify 0.9.11.26 work very nice on my Xubuntu 14.04, but i have few questions:
1) Can you place better icon to Spotify' package? Cuz right now i've got one with low resolution.
2) My XFCE-Noifyd shows me only song name and album, but don't want to do same with artist. Can you fix it please?
What's new in 0.9.11.27.g2b1a638.81-1? I cannot see the changelog with apt-get changelog. 😞

I have the same problem as Senpos: notifications show title and album name (and album cover), but not artist. I have Spotify 0.9.11.27 running on Ubuntu 14.04.
Thanks for pointing that out. I don't see any information on release 0.9.11.27.g2b1a638.81-1. What I actually wanted to know from this was if the issue where it won't start at all on Debian had been fixed. After installing it to test it appears nothing has been done for this yet.
Guess it's off to the web player once again.. 😞
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and so far I don't have any problems using it. However, it's quite disturbing the icon is too big on the taskbar lol.. Keep it up! 🙂
If any of you guys are looking for a remote control solution for Spotify for Linux, I have just released SpotCommander 11.0. It includes a lot of new features thanks to Spotify's new web API, and other improvements.
Here you have the solution: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Linux-Bad-icon-in-traybar-on-Ubuntu-14-0...
Incorrect download file pointer.
Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit
deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free
(added to Ubuntu Software Center Repository. Is the url actually supposed to give 403 in a browser? I guess so since apt-get update now works)
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 94558F59
gpg: requesting key 94558F59 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 94558F59: "Spotify Public Repository Signing Key <operations@spotify.com>" not changed
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: unchanged: 1
Software Center bonked and "apt-get update"... never mind it now works.
HOWEVER Software Center can't download "Failed to fetch http://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify/spotify-client_0.9.11.26.g995ec04.78-1_amd64.d... 404 Not Found [IP: 54.230.7.183 80]"
Going to "http://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify/spotify-client_0.9.11.26.g995ec04.78-1_amd64.d... I see that file doesn't exist, but rather a newer "spotify-client_0.9.11.27.g2b1a638.81-1_amd64.deb".

Just did a reinstall and it works for me, and installs 0.9.11.27. Anyway, you can just download the deb and open it to install it.
New version of Spotify came with yesterdays updates. Works fine, but whole thing is now gone darn heavy. HEAVY problem. Consumes around 40% of CPU all time, on quite modern C2D-laptop. Almost heavier than heaviest Flash-videos, a bug it must be.
Same problem as above along with constant 404 errors and having to restart the software.
I'll promise to visit your headquarters with cake and medals the one time you release an update that comes without bugs and fresh errors. You haven't succeeded in a couple of years now but I know you have it in you somewhere deep inside.
i'm not 100% sure, but i believe spotify is creating a "iPod" directory in my home directory under ubuntu 14.04
it keeps re-appearing, when i don't use spotify for a while it doesn't appear again.
anyone else has seen this happen?

Wow, this actually works very nice! 🙂 Love how I can start up Spotify and control everything on my Linux based HTCP without turning on the TV.
Just a small comment: What you call "Discover" is actually called "Browse" in regular Spotify. Doesn't really matter, but just thought I'd mention it.

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 16 Petra"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="13.10, Saucy Salamander"
Installed via apt-get
On first launch was "dead". Nothing but the titlebar menus did anything (File, Edit, View, etc). I think this is the "HTML5" known bug. I closed it, restarted it, now works really well. I've been using it about 20minutes, so I'll update if I find out any different.
I am trying this for the first time and have read the whole thread about ten times.
I attempt to get public key and get the following:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hpk://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 94558F59
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --homedir /tmp/tmp.chxlWgNdAP --no-auto-check-trustdb --trust-model always --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver hpk://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 94558F59
gpg: requesting key 94558F59 from hpk server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpgkeys: protocol `hpk' not supported
gpg: no handler for keyserver scheme `hpk'
gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error

Why don't you copy the command from the instructions page? You clearly have it wrong.
