Weird file appearing on linux in home directory

Solved!

Weird file appearing on linux in home directory

After the last update, i keep seeing a weird file with name explicit_filter.restore in my home directory. After a bit of investigation, i figured out that this file appears every time i skip or set a track, no matter is it explicit or not, but this file keeps appearing in my home directory every time I turn on a track.

Proof & interesting fact:
if i open spotify from a terminal in another directory, the file, instead of appearing in the home directory, will appear there. There are no messages in the console related to that weird file.

Same on archlinux

Also saw this on Arch Linux today for the first time.

bump, same on arch linux

Same here
I also noticed that the file is being created whenever a new song plays

same here, on manjaro with xfce. it's mildly infuriating because it messes up the spacing between directories in my home because thunar changes spacing depending on file name length... pls fix or change the path to ~/.config/spotify or something.

same here lol

ggagag

This is how I solved it for my arch install:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=299878#p2200779

Same here on Debian 12 (spotify testing non-free repository).
Will wait for next update to complain again about this file.

I've made this slightly less annoying for myself by changing the spotify shortcut's workpath to a less visible location than the home directory - that way the file gets created in that location

I can confirm the workaround suggested by f1she4rs is working OK. Thanks!

Just to add to my post:  I use /tmp as the spotify workpath which, on my setup, is in RAM so it's self-cleaning on every boot 😉

What the **bleep**, Spotify?! Please get rid of this ASAP.
f1she4rs, can you share in more detail what did you do?

@qwrtln You just need to edit the desktop file for Spotify.

If your desktop environment has an application launcher like a start menu you can normally right click and edit them there, otherwise find the .desktop file for Spotify and add this to it:

Path=/tmp/

On KDE Plasma if you edit the application from the launcher there’s a box in there for working directory and you can enter /tmp in there.

Ah, right, I put `/tmp` instead of `/tmp/`, thanks, that did the trick.
