My Question or Issue
1. Close the Spotify window (command-W).
2. Re-open it (command-option-1).
3. Switch to another app (command-tab).
4. Switch back to Spotify (command-tab).
5. Try to search (comnand-L). The search field on top will be outlined, but the keyboard cursor won't appear in it, and typing doesn't work until you click the field. Or some of the time it doesn't even outline the search field.
Hey there @JW1,
Thanks for reaching out.
Just to confirm, have you already tried using Cmd+K instead? Does the same thing happen if you use the web player?
If this doesn't do the trick, you can try performing a clean reinstall of the app to see if that makes any difference. It'd also be helpful to have a video or a screen recording where we can take a better look at what's going on. Make sure to hide any personal or sensitive information from it.
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Command-K works most of the time, but seems to have a similar bug -- under the conditions below, it doesn't show the field at all.
I'm not sure how to try the command-L issue on the web player, since that shortcut is used by the browser. But command-K seems to work.
Here's a screen capture from the app where I did this:
1. Close and re-open Spotify window.
2. Hide and re-activate Spotify.
3. Type command-L. The search field is focused but typing doesn't work until I click it.
4. Repeat steps 1-2.
5. Type command-K. Nothing happens.
Hey @JW1,
Thank you for the extra details and for the video link!
Unfortunately, we don't have access to Dropbox, so what we'd like to ask you is to upload the video directly here or to a different platform (e.g. an unlisted YouTube video or Google Drive) so that we can save it and send your feedback to the right folks 🙂
Many thanks in advance! We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hey @JW1,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the video shared, it's really helpful.
In order to cover all the basics and to gather all the required info to pass it internally, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.
Also, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running.
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
I'm running:
Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.6 9.449.gfda8591a
Sorry, I don't think I know anyone else with an account.
(This forum keeps censoring the number 6 9, so I put a space in it.)
Hey @JW1,
Thank you for your swift response.
In that case and if possible, could you create a new account (just for testing purposes) with a different email address to see if it has the same behavior or not? This is an important step to check if it could be account or device-related.
Also, can you recall if the issue started after an OS or Spotify update? Also, is it happening from long ago or it’s a recent behavior?
We appreciate your cooperation regarding this.
Let us know how it goes.
Sorry, every time I try to sign up using my other email address, which is with Gmail, after granting Google access, I keep getting redirected to "This page got tripped up" on Spotify.
It happens after logging out and back in though. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be account-specific.
It's been happening for some time, so I'm not sure which version it started in.
Hello again @JW1,
Thank you for your message.
We appreciate the info you sent. Since we couldn't replicate the issue on our end and taking into account that there's no other reports about this in the Community, it's possible that the behavior could be device-related.
As an option, we'd recommend trying to use "Cmd + Shift + L" to see if it has the same behavior. If so, we'd recommend keeping using the "Cmd + K" in the meantime as it works properly. If we receive any other cases about this or if we manage to replicate it, we'll pass this information internally to continue investigating it.
If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.
Command-shift-L doesn't do anything at any time.
Command-K has the same bug -- under the circumstances I showed in the video, it does nothing.
It looks like just hiding and showing Spotify is enough to trigger the behavior.
Hey @JW1,
Thanks for the reply and for the patience!
We've reported this to our tech folks so they can have a closer look and check what's happening. We'll make sure to update you in this thread as soon as we have any news to share.
Take care.
Hey @JW1
Please try this again in the Mac app and let me know if you're still having this issue.
I just tested this again and it looks to be working for me now.
Hi Matt. I just tried it again, and still see the same behavior, although now I'm on MacOS 26.0 and Spotify 1.2.72.438.g8c88c31c.
Thanks for checking this again. I did some more testing with my Mac (and with some colleagues) and I found that I do still have this issue after all.
The team at Spotify is still looking into this, so we'll post back here in the thread if there is news to share.
