Desktop app suggests songs that are already in my playlist

My spotify desktop app recently started suggesting songs for my playlists that are already in my playlist. This makes expanding my playlists very much harder. If i add a song to my playlist via the suggested songs section, the app does not prompt me with "Song already in playlist. Add anyway?" which leads to duplicates.

I'm assuming this occurs when an artist has multiple albums with the same song(s). The most common example that comes to mind is an artist releasing a single and then a complete album that includes the same song(s) from the single.

I'm fairly sure that Spotify will allow you to add songs with the same titles if they're from different albums.

If that isn't your issue though, then I'm not aware nor have I experienced it on my end.

EDIT : Just tried it out myself, and it seems this is indeed an issue.

I've tried to add a song from the Recommended list that was already in one of my playlists; there was no problem doing so.

I even tried adding the same song from the artist's album directly, and it allowed me to do it. But if I tried adding it twice from the album, then the message "Song already in playlist. Add anyway?" would pop out.

That's not the case unfortunately. I thought so too at first, but only started noticing that it may be a bug when the whole Recommended section was songs already in the playlist. Made this test playlist, and same thing happens here. Spotify allows me to add The Spins by Mac Miller into the playlist when clicking the "Add" button from the Recommended section, but prompts me with the duplicate prompt when dragging the same song from the recommended section and into the playlist in the sidebar.

Maybe it has to do with how long ago the playlist was made, I know mine was made a couple years ago..

This test playlist was only made to take that screenshot. I first noticed it when i was going to expand one of my older playlists with recommended songs and started seeing songs i knew was already in the playlist.

Hey folks,

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

@waderbog,could you let us know if this happens across devices or only on a specific one? We'd also like to know if this happens on every playlist.

On another note, it's worth trying to log out and log back in to your account twice in a row. This will trigger a sync between your account and device. However, if the issue persists, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app to see if that makes the difference.

Keep us posted on how it goes.
