Local Files Tab Freezes

Local Files Tab Freezes

Device: Mac OS X 10.10.2

I'm using the most recent Spotify update. You know, the one where they removed the Control+F search with no explanation why? While I wait for TIDAL to come out with a desktop player, I'll continue with this broken one.

I have 15,000+ songs in my local library.

When I click the tab for my local files, nothing comes up for about 2-3 minutes, as if it were empty.

When the files finally load they are sorted by song title. Well, I want to play an album by a particular artist so I try to reorder by artist (since I can't search) and the whole thing freezes.

Spotify has essentially made it impossible to play an album from my local files now. I can't believe I'm still giving these guys money.

For anyone interested. I'm trying the TIDAL trial and it's pretty nifty but doesn't have a very extensive catalogue as of yet. Nor do they have a desktop player for mac, so it's pretty annoying to not be able to right-click things and move them around like that. But I think they're on the right track. Once they get a desktop player I'll probably make the jump. I couldn't imagine they have a worse UI development team than Spotify does.

I've also been experiencing major issues with access Local Files. I've had Yosemite for some time now but EVERYTHING slows down and freezes. It does exactly as you described.

What is also hugely bothersome is the fact that searching directly within Local Files is no longer a feature. I've been complaining to the Spotify twitter account for about a month now and...not ONE response lol. However, I don't want to go to TiDAL. Sigh. Honestly, I just came here to complain in unison. I just want this issue to be fixed. Blah.

I've gotten a few responses from the https://twitter.com/SpotifyCares account. That seems to be the quickest, easiest way to get a response from them. The response I'm getting is that the "control+F search" will come in another update. TBD.

Maybe I'd feel better if they told us why they took it out? Maybe I'd feel better if someone was like "Oops, it was a mistake my bad". But TBD isn't a satisfying answer.

I also just used the contact form about it as well, mostly to ask for a refund for this month from all of the frustration.

I don't want to switch to TiDAL or anything else. The idea of trying to replicate all of my playlists on a different service is daunting.

I will try that! I also have a massively huge library of music so that might have something to do with the freezing but still. It could handle it before. Not sure what's going on but hope it comes back soon.

I feel though -- I was originally scared to go from iTunes to Spotify because of playlists in late 2011 and since then...yeah, daunting indeed lol

Thanks!

Yeah this is also a huge issue for me. I got an extensive library from years of collecting and digitalizing my music.

I seriously doubt that it's a coincidence or slip up that spotify's new version aren't compatible with local music. I think they're testing the waters in regards to whether they can remove that function alltogether or not.

They've made it completely impossible to use spotify to play tracks from my computer now, naturally trying to force me (and you) to use their stream service so they generate more money (apparently ads aren't enough for them.. Much want more and all that..). This is understandble, but personally I'm not taking the bait. My music library are way bigger than what the couple of songs I've starred in spotify, so I'd rather leave and find me another software. Grooveshark is pretty good as a pure free stream, but we'll see how long until they get greeedy.

With tidal and other streaming sites stepping up their game, I would be wary of turning your back on the members you have spotify. I think your experiments are poorly timed, better sort this out ASAP.

And also, please change the f***ing shuffle so it actually plays the songs in the list at random and not just circulate 30-40 of them! That was why i left your pro in the first place! I hate it when you try to manipulate me to increase your profits..

getting the same problem on Windows 7, so it's not a OS specific problem

Same here on Win7.

Also having this issue with Mac OS 10.7.5 + 13,000 songs.

CONSPIRACY.

Same for me as well.  It also happens when I click the "Starred" folder that houses all the songs I've been collecting as a loyal Spotify user for years now.  If I click "Starred" or "Local Files" the whole app freezes to the point you can't even adjust the volume, swith folders, nothing... just a complete freeze.

I've been using Spotify on the Mac for years now... it used to be an awesome app, then one update the did just blew it all out of whack, and it's remained out of whack ever since.  I'm talking slow launches, etc etc... my guess is it happened when they started adding all these stupid flash ads, etc... in other words, their marketing methods are literally ruining the app itself.

An OTA update was received today May 28, 2015 that seems to have dramatically improved my outlined issue.
