My Question or Issue

I've been completely unable to open the Spotify app on my Mac for the past several days now because it crashes the second I try to open it.

It crashes so fast that nothing even appears when trying to open the app. At first I thought it was refusing to open altogether, but every once in a while if I try to open it enough times in rapid succession I can get Spotify to pop up for a second before it completely crashes again.

I tried restarting my computer and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and neither helped.

I've been using the web player or my phone in the meantime, but neither has the functionality needed to easily edit my playlists, so I've just been suffering through having a bad playlist in the meantime.

Hi @cucumber2515, thanks for reaching out!

My first suggestion is that you follow these steps to perform a clean reinstall of Spotify:

  1. Open Finder then click Go (on the menu bar on the top of the screen).
  2. Select Library from the drop-down menu that appears (you may need to hold the Option (Alt) key if Library isn’t visible).
  3. Open Caches and delete the com.spotify.Client and com.spotify.client.helper folders.
  4. Click the back arrow.
  5. Open Application Support and delete the Spotify folder.
  6. Hit Command+Shift+G from your OS X desktop to bring out the Go to Folder window.
  7. Enter /Library/ to open Library folder.
  8. Enter “Spotify” in the search field, hit “Search: Library” and delete all files that appear:Bittencourt_0-1715942248326.png

  9. Shut down your computer.
  10. Wait a couple minutes and then hit the Power button again to boot your device.
  11. Download and install Spotify.

Let me know how it goes!

I tried the whole clean uninstall thing several times by now, but that didn't fix anything. It still just crashes immediately. I also double checked that my Mac was up to date, saw there was an update, installed that, and did another clean reinstall. That still didn't fix it, but the OS version I'm using is now macOS Sonoma 14.5

Hey @cucumber2515

That's odd. Do you have a sound card/external speakers connected to your MacBook?

Also, do you have firewalls or anti-virus packages enabled?

It's also worth mentioning that this behavior could also be caused by VPN or private tunnel, since those re-route network traffic. I'd also recommend turning off VPN if you're using one.

Let me know how things work out, I'll be keeping an eye out for your reply.

I got it to work again. Long story short, it was being blocked by an app blocker (Cold Turkey) that I must have set by accident while extremely sleep-deprived during finals week since that's when this issue started.

Hey @cucumber2515,

I'm glad it's now working!

Let me know if you need any other help 😊

My Question or Issue

Spotify Mac Desktop App crashes 3 seconds after opening the app. I have tried uninstalling by deleting the Spotify app and reinstalling it by downloading a fresh installer copy from Spotify (Spotify Version 1.2.45.454). The app opens, and then closes without warning 3 seconds later, and does not say "Stopped Responding" or "App unexpectedly quit" or anything like that. How can I resolve this? Is there a more thorough way of uninstalling the app than just moving the application to trash? Thank you!
