My Question or Issue

I am using the most up-to-date version of Spotify and encountering multiple issues.

1- Some of my settings revert back to Spotify's default, specifically the "Show the now-playing panel on click of play" button, which I have turned off; and the "Your Library" panel, which I have set to a custom order and appearance.

2- On Discography>Show All, my preference is to see it appear as a Grid; it always returns to the default List.

3- The Equalizer does not always appear in Settings.

The above happened after a re-installation of the app, instructions followed via Spotify's support pages, to address the next set of issues, which were never resolved from the re-intstall-

1- A blank, black screen usually appears when opening the app. It can take several times of quitting and restarting the app to get the login window.

2- Extremely slow loading times for images when opening the app (15-20 minutes, give or take).

3- Extremely slow response to clicking on buttons, on/off play, accessing playlists, etc. It can sometimes take 3-5 minutes or even longer for a song to start or stop.

Are there solutions besides the usual, tiresome re-installation of the app?

Hello there @sacred_eye,

Thanks for posting this thread on the Community and we appreciate you sharing these details, as well as what troubleshooting you've gone over.

Since you've already tried the standard reinstallation, these issues could stem from a corrupted preference file or from the Hardware acceleration setting that conflicts with your Mac's hardware. What we recommend in this case is to reset your preferences with the following steps:

  • Force-quit the app (you can follow this Apple guide if needed).
  • Open Finder on your Mac and click Go > Library (if you don't have hidden folders enabled, press the option key first and it should appear).
  • Go to Application Support > Spotify.
  • There you should find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Delete it.
  • While in the Spotify folder, you should also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  • Restart the Spotify app.

Additionally, make sure to also:

  • Disable Hardware acceleration within Spotify's top menu bar.
  • Clear Spotify's cache manually by going back to the Library folder > open Caches and delete the following folders: com.spotify.client and com.spotify.client.helper.

When it comes to the Equalizer sometimes missing, it can be disabled if the app detects it's outputting to an external device via Spotify Connect (like a smart speaker for example) rather than your iMac's native speakers. Ensure you're playing audio directly from 'This Computer'.

Hope these steps help. Keep us posted and don't hesitate to let us know if anything else comes up in the meantime.
