Re: No option to custom order playlists in my library

Re: No option to custom order playlists in my library

I have tried all of the many suggestions for changing the order of songs within a playlist on my Mac desktop. Nothing has worked, and sometimes the functions don't even seem to exist. It's 2025. Most of what I'm seeing is 2023 and earlier. Has anything changed? I'm using the latest version of Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.57.463.g4f748c64 with OS Sonoma 14.6.1

Hey @susanep,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome. We moved your post from the previous topic as it was a different issue, hope you don't mind.

To organize the tracks within a playlist created by you, make sure that the sorting option is set to "Custom Order" at the top of the playlist (as seen on the screenshot below) and you'll be able to drag the songs and organize them in the way you want.

Keep in mind that this can only be done on a playlist created by you, the playlist created by other users or created by Spotify cannot be changed. This option is also not currently available in the Liked songs playlist, as it has no "Custom order" in the sorting options.

Hope this clarifies things a bit. If anything else comes up, donโ€™t hesitate to ask.

I was trying to do this with my โ€œLiked Songsโ€ playlist where, apparently,
it canโ€™t be done. There is no option for custom order there, although I see
it on every other playlist. If I create a new list and transfer those songs
into it, I suppose it would work that way?
FYI, there was no screen shot on your message, but I figured it out.

Thanks

Hey there @susanep

Thanks for getting back to us.

You're right, if you copy your songs from the Liked songs playlist to a new one, it'll work as any other playlist. You can do this easily by going to your Liked songs > Cmd + A > dragging all songs to a new playlist.

On another note, if you'd like to have this sorting option in your Liked songs playlist in the future, we suggest that you vote for this idea. The Idea Exchange is a great way for us to see what our users are interested in and how many people like a certain idea. Check out this FAQ to learn more about it.

Hope this helps. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
