What's new in this version (1.0.9)
Solved! Go to Solution.
Really? Spotify works just fine on my end on the latest update. Try restarting your computer. Below is proof by the way. 🙂
Great, new color...
but I don't care 'cos PLAYING MUSIC DOESN'T WORK anymore for me!
Tested on 2 PC (win8).
Progress bar goes normal but no sound played. If I try to skip part of the song progress bar reset and pause.
Also I'm seeing "Follow" option (instead of Following) for artist whitch I'm following!
So really thank you for this update...
Hi,
I would like to mention a couple of issues still existing:
- Once again this new version, if you take the automatic install option from within Spotify client, installs into the wrong location - it installs in C:\Users. Then the next time you run Spotify it runs the old version and you have to keep upgrading over and over again. Of course you can uninstall everything and install it manually but why not just fix the installer to work properly? This is on Windows 7 64 Bit by the way. This issue has happend for the last 5 or 6 upgrades - in fact every since you made those major changes to the app a few months back. It's not just me as I've seen others posting that their app keeps wanting them to upgrade over and over again and this is the root cause.
- I see you ahve introduced better filtering into playlists - can we please have that back in the local files list as well as requested by many people?
- Have you fixed the issue where playlists that contain a mix of local and Spotify music freeze play?
Please, give us an option to change the colour to the old version. Really I had to remove the icon from everywhere or fake it. It hurst my eyes very badly.
Please.
Definitely don't like the new colour.
New color sucks!
And I still can not download all songs to play them offline.
Who cares about touch screens while basic functionality is not here anymore! Can't find through library ("Songs"), and can't listen to library when my network is down (workaround: save all library as a playlist and sync playlist… but it's stupid!).
Thinking about unsubscribing premium for real and going back to torrents. I choose Spotify cause they released Linux client. It was awesome. Was. Now it sucks… for real.
I don't like listening to music through websites, so Spotify WebPlayer nor Google Music (or any kind of web players) won't satisfy me.
To devs: you should rethink what you want. And please go back to Qt times, and don't use Chromium engine! It renders terrible fonts on Linux.

Are you suggesting that it is possible to install the spotify desktop app to a user preferred location?
Please do me a big favour and tell me how to?
regards ruud
@_LastHope_
Can you explain how to block updates from spotify.
My experience is in the end you have no control over updates.
Starting a new session on spotify will update the desktop app, regardless if you wanted this to happen.
Windows will not produce a warning that something undesired is about to happen to your system.

"Are you suggesting that it is possible to install the spotify desktop app to a user preferred location?

No, unfortunately not. What I'm suggesting is that when you let the app uprgrade, it doesn't even install where spotify themselves want it to. It's supposed to install in you local user apps directory. What it actually happening it that it's installing the files in the c:\users directory (not the user sub area, just c:\users, so the executable for the new version is found in c:\users. However it leaves the icons pointing to the correct location, where the executable for the old version is still sitting.
Obviously it would be even better if you could select an install location, but just putting the app where it's actually targetted at would be a good start.
@Ruud_on_Spotify
Hi , my solution works only for windows. For other system ma be something similar but i dont know exactly how to do.
You simply need to add a line in your host file to point the host upgrade.spotify.com to 127.0.0.1
Alternatively you should block this host (upgrade.spotify.com) with your firewall.
When a decent, normal and useful version will be released you simply remove this block.
It requires some little PC skill to modify the host file (nothing impossible but the file is read only and other little tricks) and if you need help leave me a PM.
Thanks for your reply.
Many visitors of this forum can enjoy your suggestion to block future updates untill you want to accept such an update.
I'me afraid though that the developers at spotify will soon take care that there is no sound coming to you if you don't upgrade to their newest (mostly failing in an effort to correct earlier stupidity) app.
@Ruud_on_Spotify
I pay, like many others, for premium account and with the last update i cant use the client anymore.
The only solution is going back to a previous version and this need to block future upgrade.
At the moment seems to work fine with the "old" 1.0.8.59.
With google you can find many tutorials to how modify your host file with step-by-step solution.
If you need the 1.0.8.59 version you should take from HERE.
Regards,
Still no new color here. When is the update coming to people on windows 7?
What bothers me most is the fact that no spotify staff is reacting on the piles of disappointed paying members comments and questions that is showered on this suffering company.
Probably too busy to enjoy a temporary success.
When the party is over: Come stay with us for just € 15 or maybe € 20 because we are the best in this business.
Hi all. Just joined the community purely to find out what has happened to the spotify logo colour? Its awful. Even offensive. Please change it back, or at least give us a choice. Horrible!
Even though there is a "change cache location" option now - it does not work, the majority of data is still in the AppData\Local.
Guys, has anyone even tested it before releasing?
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
