Spotify keeps skipping

Solved!

Spotify keeps skipping

Every since I installed Spotify on my computer, it keeps skipping every few seconds with practically every single song. I tried re-installing but still experience the same problem. Not really sure what else to do, but it's pretty annoying.

Guys, If you are still having this issue like me,  open your browser and go to https://play.spotify.com/ and sign in.  Works for me.

A simple cache issue would not be affecting this many people across multiple platforms.. It may be that you just found a temp fix. Let us know how long it works for.

@wholigan  your solution works for me.  Weird, but thanks!

works for me also. good deal and thanks

If someone wants to just try deleting the index.dat file in the cache, that might work, too.

@Spaztix1 I've had communication issues with spotify on other platforms (mobile) that have been solved by clearing the cache. I don't know what in the cache settings ties it up, but it definitely does, which is why I tried it this time. Talk to the devs about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Wholigan tried it and it also works. I just find it really odd that a cache problem would cause the same issue, with many users, on different platforms all at the same time. Very weird. Maybe the servers sent out some bad data that caused the issue.. Who knows..

Dude, you're legit.

Hi Ive just tried that and although it slowed down the rate at which it skips to the next track it doesnt solve it completley. your sollution created a new file as suggested and the old re named one remains.

Any other ideas?

Hey guys,

Wholigan is correct its a cache/ram issue which is precisely why it is affecting any platform. Spotify automatically "throttles down" the amount of memory dedicated to running it's process so you need to make sure you have enough ram available. For a Mobile platform the sweet spot seems to be 80 - 100 MB.

You can fix this problem by disabling or uninstalling processes that you don't need.

Clearing the storage folder didn't work for me.

I have connected via browser, didn't work for me either.

I have 8GB RAM used at 50% usage.

Getting crazy with this issue since months! I am considering quitting

What's really stupid about it is I have an older Core Duo Macbook Pro that never skips, but my top of the line i7 Macbook Pro with ultra-fast flash storage has the problem.

I've cleared the storage.  It helped for about 2 minutes, or at least there were no skips during that brief period.  Then it started again.  It's an intermittent problem for me.

When it's skipping, I don't appear to have any heavy CPU, storage, or network usage.  I see no reason for it.

I moved from Google Play to Spotify because the Play client is browser only, and it would stutter sometimes.  But now that Spotify stutters, I'll quit them and move to another streaming service if I have to.

Seriously, I would pay an extra 20% per month to have this product work.  There's no tolerance for skipping when listening to audio... I would be happy using a really boring simple ugly client if it meant the audio would work correctly.

Thanks!

I think I have found the sollution - I recently tried playing two albums: Miles Davis' "Aura" and Vangelis' "Apocalypse Des Animaux" and tracks kept skipping all the time no matter what I did. I realised then, that I used to have these two actual albums on my hard drive, because I had them in my iTunes library before I made a backup and deleted them. So now, wenever I try to find those albums or any album I used to have in my iTunes,Spotify shows the tracks, that are linked to deleted songs from my hard drive in the first place - those files have an additional icon with a note symbol and only these songs keep skipping. I hope it helps.

Thanks so much dude! worked like a charm.

RIP offline playlist that stayed after the premium was gone tho.

Worked perfectly! Thank you VERY much!!!

I have the same problem too. For some reason its only the songs that have been added in the past 4 or so months that can't play. It says it cannot play and skips to the next one. For the songs that have been made more than a year ago it plays normally. Is there a solution?!!! This didn't happen when I had premium! Please can you fix this spotify?

I can't find the folder 'Storage' in the cache file for mac.

Thanks!!! Doesn't skip anymore. For mac users the Storage folder might not be in the place he said in the solution. You have to go to Spotify Settings>Advanced settings and scroll down. It should say where the cache really is on your computer if the command he wrote doesnt work.

It is a hidden folder. Did you follow my instructions above for locating it on a Mac?
