When will 'sort search results by column heading' be restored to Spotify?

"once you do a search, the column headings are unresponsive, regarding sorting by song title or sorting by artist or by album".

This is something I need from the program that should not have been removed.

"I can no longer SORT the search results by song title like I used to every day."

different ways of saying it, but everyone knows it's a problem.

I simply cannot believe it's been 3 months already and such vital feature like sorting is still broken. Sorting is obviously the first thing a music player needs after "play" and "stop" buttons. It's like YouTube would remove the full screen button or Netflix would disable the play bar.

It doesn't take long to cancel your subscribtion, really. Online services love pushing partner content; that's just how it is. Spotify's database of music IS awesome, but any database becomes useless when its search is impaired. A fix was not planned before and one is most likely not planned at the moment, so why hold your breath? Even this topic is 3 months old by now. The issue is most likely of no importance, and music fans can't be THAT important to the business model 🙂

Google should buy Spotify... obviously the nincompoops running the show now can't get the job done.

What on earth were the spotify product team thinking? Removing this sort feature is a bad decision, why is someone searching for a song title expected to manually go through a huge list looking for the the correct artist?! They just won't do and will leave unsatisfied and angry.

Just to repeat, there was a helpful workaround posted earlier in this thread... putting spotify:search:[then your song title] generates a different looking list which has clickable headings to allow sorting eg alphabetically. For example I was able to find a song by Bloc Party called one more chance easily when i searched for "spotify:search:one more chance"

This is an issue that should not need "workaround". It is an issue that should have been fixed within 24 hours after noticing it.

But now it's almost half a year and nothing has happened. Why?

My answer is that many Spotify users don't even find this problematic. Probably they hardly ever use search function, or when they do they don't miss the ability to classify search results. I'm guessing they just use radio or listen to pre-made playlists. But they can't be a majority, can they? Isn't the best thing in Spotify the possibility to find new unexplored music?

For us - the normal users - who want to explore songs covered by different artists or quickly see the names of the songs or albums of the artist by alphabetical order, sorting is a vital function. What it would be like if Windows folders had no sorting? What it would be like if YouTube search had no sorting? Horrible. Every searchable database must have a sorting option.

Since the search is useless without sorting, why not remove the search function altogether? I wouldn't be surprised if Spotify thinks the latter is a good idea.

Seriously annoyed by the loss of this functionality. Even with the work around it just takes away my primary reason for paying for the service. Come on spotify! You just went from super awesome to, ehhh... just ok....

I am quite unhappy to have this function gone. I like to see what others like, but ordering most popular. I like to reorder the list by song or artist..

This was a function I used every day! I thought maybe they made it a premium user function, so I actually purchase the premium..I know silly. Disappointed to see that it's no longer a function. Why would Spotify go backwards on their interface offering? 

Please bring back the function to reorder the column.... 😞

Well thinking about this feature purposely taken out.. maybe it has something to do pleasing the lesser searched artists.. as the money that spotify gives away is done by giving most to the most listened artists. Thanx spotify, but we users don't care, GIVE US OUR TOOLS BACK TO USE THE DATABASE AS _WE_ WANT.

I got my Update for the new Spotify. That one that doesn't even have plugins any more (1.0.1.805.gd2412973) and I have to confirm that now even the workaround with "spotify:search:" doesn't work aymore. Such a BULL**bleep**!

That's sad news that the workaround will no longer work when you upgrade. All we can do now is sift through a load of results that seem to be presented in a totally random order - it's like being back at the underfunded community library.

I canceled my monthly service. Its only worth it to me if it has that functionality. Went back to mp3's And I love it. Saving 10 buck and can sort how I want.
Dear spoify, thank you for wasting my time and my money. It made me realize my music is my music an I'll listen to it how I want too, not how you steer it.

I also got an email that there is a solution. The solution in the thread no longer works. So there is not a solution. I would also like to add that we should not have to know different search codes to work around the issue. This function was there and then it went away. I agree with the above poster that it may not really be worth my time to pay (even $10.00) for a monthly subscription is one of my favorite options is not available. I actually signed up for the preimuim thinking that it would enable me to use this funtion after it went away. I honestly did not care about commercials now and again. Why is this not an option? Sometimes I was able to find new music by reordering by the "most popular" bar. Well that's my two cents for today.
