My Question or Issue:
I am seeing a "Your version of Windows is out of date banner", but a) I'm on a Mac so I don't have Windows and b) my Mac's version isn't out of date. Is there a way to clear this banner permanently, or is it a bug?

Hey folks!
Thank you for reporting this 🙌🏼
Our tech folks have made some changes backstage, so the error message should now show up properly.
Note that in order to use the desktop app, your device needs to meet the minimum system requirements. In case it doesn't, you can use the Web Player instead.
Cheers 🤘

Have the same thing. Lol, Spotify doesn't even know that I'm on Mac.
Since yesterday it's happen on macos Mojave. and it took around 30-50 seconds for the popup to comes up so I can dismiss it.
I am also getting this message on my Mac.
Me too.

same here. so annoying.
Same here (premium, Belgium).
While the “Windows” part is obviously wrong, your OS version is indeed outdated if you look at the system requirements page:
https://support.spotify.com/us/article/supported-devices-for-spotify/
macOS 10.15 is the minimum now, so you need to update if you are on 10.13 High Sierra or 10.14 Mojave.
Also, if your computer says your OS is up-to-date, that might not be true. If you have a 2012 model you should be able to update to 10.15, but you might have to do it via Apple’s download page that directs you to App Store.
One more thing: Both Chrome and Firefox have recently raised their system req to 10.15, so it’s really important to update. Spotify has parts of Chromium in it so that’s likely why they now raised their minimum OS.
The same happens for me, but my mac OS version is indeed very very old 😄
Can't believe this still isn't fixed, come on guys!
Seems its trying to update for latest OSX which my machine can't do, seems you are trying to force your users to either upgrade to a new machine which I can not afford, or just remove us from your platform.
Bunk that Spotify is expecting users to upgrade even though we're paying to use their service. Absolutely exhausted by constant upgrades. I'm assuming there won't be any attempt to address this or turn this notification, as it has now gotten that 4 out of 5 times I open the app on my desktop, the screen greys out yet the prompt doesn't even appear for me to dismiss it.
Hi, I've written a little AppleScript code to be saved as an app. Running it will just activate Spotify and escape the message. (So you just have to launch this applet instead of launching Spotify.) You might want to adapt the delay here set to 5 sec in order to match your own situation. HTH.

on run
tell application "Spotify" to activate
delay 5 -- = 5 seconds of delay, to be adjusted if needed
try
tell application "System Events" to set visible of application process "Spotify" to true
tell application "System Events" to key code 53 -- = ESC
end try
end run
