My Question or Issue

for a few weeks now, all my songs are greyed out on the windows app on my main PC.

The webplayer is working fine on the same machine, mobile version is working as well and on a different PC (desktop app), in the same network its also working without any issues.

Same issue. Also on W10 PC, web player just working fine. Updating also didn't resolve the problem

Thanks for searching for the answer you need here.

Just to confirm, have you tried a clean reinstall of the Spotify app on your device? We recommend the steps in that guide, as they’re very thorough and make sure no damaged leftover files remain. These changes tend to solve issues like the one you're experiencing. Give your device a quick restart as well before you open the newly installed app. 

If that doesn't fix things, you should also check your host files. Even though it was written for another topic, this page has instructions on how to do this. ​​​​​​​

Clean install didn't help for me. I used a regular exe file though instead of windows store, since it claim I can't log in. but I've never used windows store for anything anyway. I prefer getting my files from the source.

everything is still grayed out and if I try to play a song it says "this content is not available", and if I double click any playlist it just say "try to turn off offline mode". I could listen to the songs I had listened to very recently before the clean install, as if they were still cached or something, but now nothing is working. I do have the problem of win10 claiming I don't have a network, while being able to use all other applications fine. it's just spotify that refuse to work;
logging in works fine, and I can see my friends listen to different songs. the weekly rotation on recommended and discovery playlists also update as usual by showing new songs in the list and how long ago they were added, just not able to play anything. so it seem to have partial connection at least, since all other functions seem to work.

it makes me wonder if/why spotify might be too reliant on windows instead of functioning as a proper standalone. because I don't see any other reason for spotify to stop working other than win10 messing up as it usually does..

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sorry to hear that you're having such issues with the Desktop app recently.

This sounds like there might be some corrupted Spotify files on your computer. 

What you can try is the following:

1. First uninstall Spotify and then delete this folder:
2. C:\Users\[YOURUSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Spotify
3. After that reinstall Spotify

If you can't find the folder, try this:

1. Uninstall Spotify: Start > Control Panel > Programs / Uninstall a Program > Spotify
2. Find your AppData folder and delete all Spotify data.
3. Click on the Start search menu, type run, after that type: %appdata% and hit enter
4. You probably see 4 folders; enter each and see if they contain a folder called Spotify. Delete the entire Spotify folder.
5. Restart your computer at this point.
6. Reinstall Spotify.

Let me know if the issues continue after this 🙂

The first time this issue ocurred a clean reinstall worked just fine, but now the problem seems to return sometimes. Not sure why, it may have something to do with audio drivers

Just to double-check-are there any changes after trying the steps @Alex mentioned?
 

It's also a good idea to check if the sound drivers are up-to-date.

If nothing changes, you can try downloading the app from the Microsoft store if you're using the app from our website and vice versa. Does that make a difference?

If the issue persists, could you please share with us screenshots of the error messages? We'll look into this further.

A proper uninstall, then using search to find any folder or files containing "spotify" and removing those. doublechecking both appdata roaming and local to make sure those files are gone, using a program to heal clean up the pc from temporary data. then reboot before making a clean install, reboot again after installation.

every song is gray and the app act as if it's in offline mode. nothing happen if I doubleclick on a song, but when I doubleclick a playlist it show the text to turn off offline mode (tried turning offline mode on and off again, of course, but didn't help. thus the reinstall attempts).
while I can't use it, it seem to update songs, recommendations and the listening status of friends etc.
added some screenshots of what the controls look like on a random podcast, taken on the 6th since I was going to respond but had to go, then forgot about it.

using the browser version atm, which lack any of the features to adjust soundlevels and get better quality... quite disappointing tbh. however, by doing that I noticed that when using spotify app on another pc I could change songs using the control on that pc. but the app on this one doesn't even register that I'm active on the account elsewhere.

the only thing I can think of would be as said earlier, that the program could be relying too much on windows network status? since this started a day or two after the network status got messed up on my windows despite, as can be seen by the responses, working fine. most programs connect just fine as long as the connection to internet work, despite what windows claim. spotify is however the only program not working right now.

Thank you for keeping us up to date!
If it's not an issue for you, we'd ask you to test out if the app also fails to work properly when installed via the Microsoft App Store.
This version is optimized for Windows and may very well not have this issue.
At the very least it would help us narrow down where the root of the issue is.

my songs are greyed out, only some of them. i live in the U.S. and its supposed to work because it works for my brother, i use diffrent devices for the same acc i have the issue with. its most songs, i made a new acc and all the songs work but i want to use it on my main account because i have progress on it on last.fm

My Question or Issue

After the last update all songs are unplayable from the playlist screen. They are grayed out and when you tap it, you get a "Content not available" error message.
At the same time, however, it is possible to play all songs by choosing from the queue, or by adding a song to the queue and then rewinding to the next track. However, this way of using it is quite unintuitive.

I have already tried turning hardware acceleration on and off, updating the operating system, and completely reinstalling the application, but nothing solved the problem.

When I tried to download an older version of the application, everything worked without a problem, but due to automatic updates when the application is launched this is also not a permanent solution, because after the update the situation is the same again.
