[Bug] Spotify forgets player state while rebooting with "close to tray" enabled

[Bug] Spotify forgets player state while rebooting with "close to tray" enabled

Applicable to Spotify 1.0.80.474 on Windows 10 Edu 1709 x64

When the option "Close button should minimize the Spotify window to the tray" is enabled, Spotify forgets playlist, song and song progress when Windows reboots. Normally you would be able to continue your song where you left off but the option interferes with this behavior.

Technical information: It seems like Spotify reacts differently to a graceful taskkill when the option is enabled. Instead of closing the whole client and subsequently writing the current song and playlist to the player-state file, it merely closes the window and skips saving the current player state. When Windows shuts down the graceful taskkill is followed by a forceful taskkill which doesn't allow Spotify to save the player state.

Proposed fix: Make Spotify regularly (once per second) update the player-state file to avoid losing progress during reboots and when the player crashes.

Hey @user091214.

Thanks for reaching out to the community with this information.

There's a new Spotify version for desktop that has rolled out already, so let's try reinstalling the app to make sure you're running the latest version.

Let me know if this continues to happen on the newest version.

All the best.

Thank you for your response.

I uninstalled Spotify and installed version "1.0.82.454.g623fabd2 (Windows Store version)". I tested it again and Spotify still forgets what I was last playing when I reboot Windows. So the bug persists.

Thanks for getting back with this information.

Let's try removing the Windows store version and installing the app directly from our website here.

Try using this version and let me know if it behaves the same.

Cheers.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I tried the same with the standalone Spotify version: "1.0.82.447.g975ad224" for Windows desktop. The issue persists. Song progress, playlist and even the audio level as I just noticed will be forgotton with a reboot.
