Can Spotify play from local files on my PC?

Can Spotify play from local files on my PC?

I am new to spotify, previously I have always used purchaed music on itunes.

I have lots of MP3 files on my PC I would like to add to my library, when I told Spotify where they are it added them to 'local files' and not to my list of artists/songs etc, if I drag and drop songs from the local files section to the songs section will Spotify play the local file rather than stream or does it always stream? I just don't see the point in using my data when I have the song on my PC

Hi,

I am not sure about Windows (I am on Mac) but I believe it would not be too much different. Just go to Edit / Preferences / Local Files, click Add Source and select a folder with your local mp3 files. Then you should be able to play them in your Spotify app.

thanks, but when i got to'artists' they aren't there, they only show in local files. Also this means they don't show on my phone.

When I uised Apple Music, if i downloaded a song and added it to itunes it would match it to the song on their servers and make it available on all my devcies, but the MP3 file was still on my PC so if I played it in itunes it played the MP3 and didn't waste data streaming something that I already have, this is what I was hoping Spotify would do.
