Hello. Thought I'd try one last time to request help before moving to a different streaming service. There are other threads on this issue, but they are old and some are even marked as "Solved" when they clearly weren't, which might make moderators overlook them, so I'm creating a new topic.
Since the release of the new UI, we have lost the ability to copy, cut or paste local files. As someone with several of these mixed within my playlists, this has been a gigantic pain. I quite literally created a playlist named "Add Later" filled with local files that I planned to move around once the problem had been fixed. Eight months later, "Add Later" keeps growing with no resolution in sight.
Right now, the only way to transfer a local file from one playlist to another is to use the "Add" function, which sends the song to the very bottom and forces me to drag it up through 1000+ other songs so I can have it where I want. **bleep**, even that is impossible now, thanks to a recent bug preventing scrolling when dragging upwards. An issue such as this makes me wonder what kind of development guideline or philosophy has been adopted by the team, which prevents the implementation of previously available features.
Isn't it just a question of rearranging references in a list? As is, I assume, done with references to server-side songs? It's not like the application needs to physically duplicate the local file's data or anything - it should be as simple as copying the reference to a memory address in a different array. If Spotify can access that memory location to play a file, it should have no problem storing the reference to said location in another list. As a developer myself, it baffles me how this cannot be accomplished in the new UI (especially, again, considering it was possible before).
I have tried many music streaming platforms in the past and Spotify is by far the best among them. This year's overhaul brought vast improvements in several areas but this one issue is crucial to my perusal and has nagged at me for months. It's come to the point where I'm willing to resubscribe to a worse platform, just to be able to properly organize my playlists again.
Please understand mine, and several other users' plight, Spotify. All we humbly request is that you restore the cut, copy and paste of local files. A basic feature in any application. Please.
