Can't download any music in new Desktop App

Can't download any music in new Desktop App

Hi,

when I set a playlist to download, the progress bar just goes to the percentage of already-downloaded songs, and the icon in the playlist list keeps going in a circle. There is no download progress bar appearing in the usual place (below "Create Playlist, Liked Songs, Your Episodes)

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the new Version (I have installed 1.2.7.1277.g2b3ce637).

Evidence: A clean reinstall did nothing, I could download nothing at all (also kept showing 0MB under "storage"). I then installed an old version from https://spotify.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/91111320

That worked, I could download stuff again. But after restarting the app it auto-updated and I could download no more (but already-downloaded music stayed available)

Hey @saerin,

Thanks for posting about this, and sorry to know you're having download issues. Thanks for trying a clean reinstall to troubleshoot the issue. I'm on the same version of Spotify, but I was able to download a playlist without running into the issues you described. It sounds like you're currently using the standalone desktop version. Could you please try the version from the Microsoft Store and see if that works better for you? Please also be sure to perform the steps for a clean reinstall again before you install the Microsoft Store version.

Hi,

I tried the version from the Microsoft Store - same problem. hm.

Thanks for trying that. This is definitely a strange issue, especially since you're only experiencing it in this particular version. Could you please try going to your settings and changing the storage location? I'd suggest making a folder just for this purpose, so you don't end up filling up a top level folder, like your desktop, with a lot of cache data files. I'm just curious if there is an error specific to the standard AppData\Local save location that might be causing this or if it would happen no matter where you try to save your tracks.

Also, if this continues to occur, could you please record a short video of the error occurring and upload it?

I can't be bothered to go into full debug-mode as downloading everything again takes annoyingly long (sorry), so I'll just add for anyone with the same problem: A quick fix was installing a previous version and stopping updates by setting read/write privileges of AppData/Local/Spotify/Update to admin only
