Can't pause/switch song when window is minimized

I'm using the desktop app for Windows and every previous version of Spotify but the latest update has made it possible for me to switch and play/pause songs using the designated keys on my Acer SK-9621 keyboard when the program window is minimized. It still works fine when having the windowed open but if I'm playing a game or browsing the web it makes it a slight inconvenience having to interrupt what I'm doing.

OS: Windows 10 Home

Nvm, somehow it started working the day after for what seems like no apparent reason.
