Can't play local songs from Android on PC if they have bitrate below 192kb/s

Can't play local songs from Android on PC if they have bitrate below 192kb/s

My Question or Issue

I was adding my local songs to favourites on my phone with Android when I realised that I can't play some songs. Both PC and Android have the exactly same audio file in local files.

After checking properties of audio files which don't work on PC I found out that they all have bitrate 128kb/s while 192kb/s bitrate songs work fine.

Is there any fix for this which doesn't require modifying or finding files with higher bitrate?

Hey @mega444,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Are you able to play the files on the PC if you manually copy them to the PC from the phone?

Could you check the sound settings of your PC to make sure they're set properly?

Does the same happen if you are using a different PC?

Let us also know what other troubleshooting steps you've already tried, so we avoid repeating them.

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

I can play files if I copy either from PC to phone or phone to PC. Problem only occurs when I try to play file added to playlist/favourites from other device.
The problem also occurs on phone when I try to play file added on PC (but again this only occurs with 128kb/s files).
Beside that I noticed that when I try to add the same file to playlist once via PC and once via phone I don't get "Song is already on playlist, are you sure you want to add it again?" warning which occurs when I repeat procedure with working 192kb/s file. It looks like Spotify app doesn't recognize those files as the same file for some reason.

Hey @mega444

Thanks for your reply.

Keep in mind that the files' metadata needs to be the same across all the devices for the songs to be recognized as the same files and different bitrates affect this.

Additionally, taking into account that Spotify can only play smoothly local audio which all the involved devices support, this won't likely be possible in this case, since some of the files don't work on both platforms without having different versions of them depending on the bitrate (and maybe other settings too).
