Collaborative Playlist

I have a collaborative playlist with my previous lover. How do I know he is also playing a song on our playlist at the same time as me? I don't follow him anymore.

Following him is the most direct way you can see what he's listening to. Only exception is when he uses private mode or offline listening.
Outside of that, listening to music on Spotify seems to be a pretty private activity. Unless they have a last.fm account or Spotify linked to their Discord account (if they have one), it's not possible to see what someone's listening to.
