My Question or Issue
My current version of Spotify displays that it is version 1.1.74.631.g0b24d9ad . I have two issues which started with the introduction of the new UI, aproximately 8 months ago.
1st issue: I've am unable to use the "cut" function (hotkey Ctrl+Z) in spotify. Using the copy function requires more steps and more time spent going back and forth in playlists, so I would like the cut function returned.
2nd issue: After using a filter (hotkeyed Ctrl+F) to find a track in a playlist and selecting a track, previously, after closing the filter, the display of the playlist would jump to the position of the track in the playlist. This was rather useful for navigating to a specific position in a large playlist quickly, and I would like this feature returned as to make navigating large playlists more convenient again.
I hope it won't take too many years for these features to return (assuming they do eventually return), and I appreciate that there are many other different priorities which often must be accounted for.
Edit: The cut function seem to have been restored when I last tested with version 1.1.77.643.g3c4c6fc6
Hey @Arikabeth,
Thanks for posting here 🙂
If you're using the app from out website, you can try downloading it from the Microsoft store to see if anything changes.
Does the same thing happen when you log in with another account on the PC?
Keep us posted.
Both issues persist after doing a clean install with the Microsoft Store version of the program. I do not have access to another account to log in through. I saw someone else post about having issues with the cut function recently. Does the cut function work for you?
Hey @Arikabeth,
Thanks for getting back to us.
In this case we'd suggest you add your +Vote to this idea as it seems similar to your suggestion. You can also Subscribe to the thread so you can stay up-to-date with any news about this.
You can also check out our Idea Exchange to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion about the shortcut Ctrl+F. If there isn't one, you can submit your idea with these steps.
If you need anything else, the Community is here for you.
Hey, that idea doesn't seem to be quite what I'm posting about. It is already possible to paste songs at specific places in playlist with the current UI; I have not had any issues with that.
Regarding being able to move to a specific track in the playlist by opening the filter (Ctrl+F), clicking to select a track, then closing the filter by clicking on the x next to the filter box, I was recently made aware of two alternative ways to go the selected song from the filter, thanks to user Bosi.
Method 1: Instead of closing the filter by clicking the X to close it while having a song selected, instad hit escape.
Method 2: Highlight all characters in the filter box, then hit backspace to remove all the characters.
Both these methods works as alternative ways to access the "jump to selected song" which I sought, so that's nice. It would be nice if using the "closing the filter by clicking on the x next to the filter box" would have the same effect as method 1 and 2 as it used to though (but once again I understand that that is probably a minor issue compared to other stuff that's being worked on at the moment).
Hi @Arikabeth,
Thank you for your reply and sharing that workaround you found, it's great to know that function is working for you now.
About the idea that @Ver shared, that one is still applicable because it also states that "This idea implies the existence of the ability to cut rather than just copy songs in a playlist as well", which is what you would like to achieve.
Once again, we invite you to leave your +Vote, it will let you stay up to date with any developments. Take into account that the "Closed" status doesn't mean the idea won't be implemented. If it reaches the necessary amount of votes, Spotify will consider it.
Let us know if you have any questions.
I did vote for the idea, but it just seemed strange to vote for an idea where the main part of the idea, i.e. being able to paste songs to specific locations in playlists, seems to be working as it should (at least in my experience, though I guess it may still be bugged for others), and that the "cut being assumed functioning" seemed to only be a generally unrelated idea compared to the main issue presented in the bugfix idea (even if it was indeed mentioned).
What did you mean with that voting keeps me up to date with any development though? Does having voted for something give me automatic updates or notification for if any of the ideas I have voted on change status or get implemented?
Hey @Arikabeth,
Thanks for the reply.
There are a couple of Ideas about Cut&Paste and more option for song management merged into the idea we've linked to, this is why the other moderators have suggested voting on this one, even though it's not specifically asking only for the return of the Cut&Paste function.
I know it might be a bit confusing, but I'll do my best to explain how Idea work in the Community. You need to vote and subscribe to the Idea (click the 3-dot menu> Subscribe to RSS feed) to get notified as soon as there is any development on the Idea, like a status change. When the Idea has gathered enough votes, it can either be implemented in the app or there will be a message posted explaining why it will not be implemented in one of the next updates.
Currently, this Idea has not gathered enough votes, but it's still open for voting, which means that it's something that might be implemented in the future, if enough people request it.
I personally would also love to have the Cut&Paste function, but for now we don't have official info whether it's gonna be made available or not.
Hope this info clears things up. Don't hesitate to reach out again if you have questions.
Oh thank you, I misread part of one of the posts "we invite you to leave your +Vote, it will let you stay up to date with any developments"; I assume the sentence assumed that if I voted I would also subscribe to the RSS feed, like Ver mentioned in an earlier post, so thanks for explaining.
I also wasn't aware of that ideas were being merged into eachother, so thanks for explaining that too (it seems a bit counterintuitive given the directive to post separate posts for different ideas and to have a clear idea about what is being voted for, but I understand that it makes it easier to handle when there are multiple suggestions about something which seem similar or related).
Hey @Arikabeth,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Sometimes there are active or closed Ideas about pretty much the same thing, so we tend to transfer the votes to one main idea which stays open for voting. This way it has better chance of getting traction 🙂
We're here if you have more questions.
Hey, the cut function seem to work again on the desktop version for Windows when using version 1.1.77.643.g3c4c6fc6 so that's nice. 👍
Hey there @Arikabeth,
Thank you for getting back in touch.
We're glad that things works as you'd like them to again 🙂
