[Desktop] Annoying spellcheck red line in search bar

[Desktop] Annoying spellcheck red line in search bar

Operating System

(Windows 11)

Whose idea was it to implement a spell check in the search bar of the desktop client with latest update? I've never asked for it, and I never will.

Please remove it, or tell me how I can disable the red lines. (All spell checks in Win 11 are turned off, and never had the issue before this update)

Hey @Tweak47,

Thanks for your reply and for all the info shared here.

Just to confirm, are you able to replicate this behavior on the web player? It'd be awesome if you could check. If yes, we'd suggest you double-check if the browser you use has a spell check tool that you can disable. If you use Chrome as a browser, you can follow the steps here to disable its spell checker tool.

On another note, we suggest you check for possible new version updates in the three dot menu that you can find on the left-top of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”. Give it a try and let us know if afterwards you notice any difference.

Keep us in the loop and don't hesitate to get back to us if you have any other questions.

Hey, I'm using latest firefox. It's only in the desktop app this behaviour is present.

Thank you.

Thanks for confirming @Tweak47. If possible, could you log in to your account on the desktop app from another device (a friend's or a relative's PC would do) to see if the spell-check would persist there as well? This would help us determine if the behavior is account-based.

Looking forward to your reply. Cheers 🤘

I don't have the spellcheck red line, BUT WHAT ON EARTH HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE SEARCH FEATURE??? Do you actually test ANYTHING before you implement it??? Ever since the last update, typing something in the search box changes EVERYTHING that we see underneath the search box with EVERY LETTER of the word we're trying to type. This causes an enormous lag, and when you type quickly, individual letters simply don't appear. So I may type "Metallica", but what I get in the search box is "Mtllca" or something like that. DO I HAVE TO EXPLAIN HOW ANNOYING THIS IS? I don't think so. I have prevented my desktop app from updating on my own computer, because I just can't take this anymore. But right now I'm at my parents' computer, and instead of fixing existing issues (queue being reduced to a joke), you add more issues to absolutely basic features! WHAT THE **bleep**????

Guys, your biggest problem is that you're DOING TOO MUCH. This is quite obviously the old "We pay people for this, so they have to do something" problem. But this is a pretty simple app, and while I don't want anyone to lose their jobs, you should really reduce the number of devs or their hours, severely. This app doesn't need substantial changes every few weeks. And another problem is that your devs seem to have a really hard time implementing new stuff without messing up existing stuff in the process.

It's not possible to do this for me right now, as I only have 1 pc.

As Gig Goer say, the search field is a mess. I've tested this thoroughly now, and everytime I write something, a letter is removed in the search field as you type at random times as the content below changes. This is infuriating. It makes you not find what you're looking for, because there are constant errors with letters missing.

Sort it out, will ya!

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies.

We've tested this on our end, however, we couldn't replicate the issue. If you're still experiencing this, make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here so we can investigate and report it internally.

Regarding the spellcheck, note that this isn't a feature of the Spotify app, so we'd suggest checking your system spellcheck settings and disabling them to see if that makes a difference.

Let us know how it goes.

The permanently displayed search bar is back in the desktop app - yay!

What you type in the search bar is being autocorrected - nay!

Stop or turn off the default autocorrection of what you're typing into the new search bar. Not sure if it's AI driven but it does not have language skills required to autocorrect, or it's drunk.

One of (many) examples below:

Whilst typing "hollywood" the AI/search bar had the "w" removed and I ended up with "hollyoo" before ending the query.

I posted the above as an "idea" because issues must be submitted as ideas to get fixed. I'm not sure why it ended up as a comment here rather than an idea. Nevertheless, the problem persists: the search field is autocorrecting as I type, either by misspelling correctly spelled queries or by changing my input to something different. This is very intrusive and often incorrect.
