Discover Weekly Constantly Bad

Discover Weekly Constantly Bad

Every week, I make it a priority to listen to my discover weekly and mark the songs I don't like, but last year I made a playlist full of "meme songs" aka songs I wouldn't listen to normally, and I played it with my friends in the car as a joke once, and then deleted it. This was June-July 2019, but since then my discover weekly has been stuck on giving me Chinese/ anime songs, and terrible remixes. My music taste is mostly pop, so I don't know why its still giving me terrible recommendations based off of this one playlist, as I always make sure dislike the songs I don't like (usually all of them) and I've followed most of the guides to fix it, but nothing has worked.  Any thoughts? P.S. this issue occurs across my whole account, but i couldn't find anywhere with a post button except for here.

For me today, after many months of it being broken, the Discover Weekly is back strong again! Did Spotify fix it for everyone? Thanks Spotify !!!

Will have to check that out. Release Radar’s still poep. Today I only had to “delete” 25 songs instead of the 27 of last week. They have improved lots, not.

Haha, that playlists never work as they were made to be. Those playlists (or generally the made for you things) adjust to your likes in a year or so... Ive been listening to metal for a year and finally my playlists show some metal but the ones that don't like. Wrapped works the same too. It never fits what you love.

Great to see that spotify has a technical issue multiple people (myself included) and it being ignored

I listened to lofi hip hop for a couple days as focus music and now my Discover Weekly is 100% lofi hip hop, it's completely unusable. I haven't listened to lofi for over a month now and I've consistently marked every song on the Discover Weekly as disliked, yet it still keeps giving me only lofi week after week. How do I get out of this situation?

Discover Weekly used to be my favorite playlist and how I found new music.

Same here. Weekly discovery used to be something i was looking out for however for many weeks it now suggests music that isn't even remotely close to what I like, I add to my playlists or even my friends I am connected to listen to. I keep hitting 'dislike' in the hope at some point computer will learn. Hope these complaints find their way to the Spotify dev team...

Hey guys, I've been having a particular problem for a few weeks now and wanted to look for some feedback. Out of the blue and without any change in my listening behavior, Spotify has been spamming my Discover Weekly playlist with AI-generated "music" for about 6 weeks now, which couldn't be further from the music stored in my playlists.

It's always the same pattern:

The Discover Weekly playlist contains almost exclusively 1 - 2 minute, monotonous, extremely generic tracks without any vocals, from "artists" whose accounts are a few days to a few weeks old. The "artists" have a few hundred monthly listeners, but some of the tracks have already been clicked on tens of thousands of times. Outside of Spotify and sometimes other streaming platforms, the "artists" don't exist. No social media. The internet doesn't know them.

Of course, I have already contacted support with my problem. Their core message was that they blamed me and that I should trust the "holy algorithm". The question of why Spotify suggests "AI-artists" instead of real artists and why the problem suddenly occurred were completely ignored.

I actually rule out the possibility that my account was hacked or used by a third party, as I could have seen that from the listening history. In addition, only Shazam is linked to the app.

Hence my question: Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes I am experiencing the same and it is really annoying.

My Question or Issue

For months I’ve had issues with discover weekly recycling songs that I purposely hid because I disliked them. My past excitement for Mondays new playlist has quickly dissolved with every ‘new’ playlist just being full of old songs I already know I hate. It honestly feels like gambling when I open the app. Will it actually be new songs, or the same old songs? If this isn’t fixable, then I’ll definitely be switching to a different provider. It’s ridiculous to pay this much and not get the whole service I’m paying for.

I reported the Discover Weekly issue 5 years ago, it keeps on repeating what I was listening 5 zears ago, nothing new, only a lot of repetiotion. I even get songs I explicitely voted out from it repeated again, terrible.

My Question or Issue

Discovery Weekly used to be my favorite weekly routine. A wonderful selection of algorithms, amazing tracks, just perfect. For the past three weeks, what Weekly has been suggesting is a complete joke because I've never listened to or will ever listen to such a genre. Does anyone know what's going on?"

Any news to this? Funny how I opened something similar to this thread in 2020 and still see the same suggestions as back then 🙂

Spotify, you should care more about your PAYING users 🙂

In 2020 I reported this issue, many other users did the same and yet what Spotify did....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

I used to look forward to my discover weekly every Monday. It was usually quite true to my music style and accurate as to what would match my taste and what I’d recently been listening to. Not sure what’s going on at the moment but it’s just disappointing! The recommendations have nothing to do with my music taste or my recent listens. I really hope they fix it soon, such a shame. It used to be my favourite thing on Spotify.
