How do I turn off the Desktop App's invasion into my web browser?

How do I turn off the Desktop App's invasion into my web browser?

When listening to a song preview on a webpage( The song on this page http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/dance/8013987/selena-gomez-new-song-marshmello-wolves ) I noticed that when I closed the tab the song was still playing. I switched to the desktop app and noticed that the song was playing through the app. My browser never asked to open any application and I was not signed into Spotify. I looked further trying to find a helper extension with no luck. I tested this with the desktop application closed and it auto launches the desktop application without asking. I also tested this in incognito mode and the same thing still happened.

How do I disable this?

Windows 8  with Chrome build 61.0.3163.100

I tried to reproduce this on Windows 10 with Firefox, which should be somehow the same.

My findings (and solution):

Go to the settings of your browser (assuming that Firefox and Chrome work the same) and look for something related to "Default Application". There you should see Spotify and a setting that defines how to behave when opening a Spotify link.

I hope that this helps.
